Yeah, Accelerando wasn't his best, Singularity Sky and Iron Sunrise were both better I think.

Yes, yes, and yes Dan Simmons' Hyperion/Endymion books are great, and the Ilium/Olympos pair are pretty good too. Neal Stephenson is one of my favourite authors, I enjoyed his Baroque trilogy even though it was historical fiction and not sci-fi. Snow Crash, The Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon etc are all great. As for Gibson, I've read Neuromancer, and have a couple of his other books that I just haven't gotten around to reading yet.
awesome, you read all the same shit i do

Maybe I'll just go get Snowcrash before I go any further, as a primer of sorts.
cryptonomicon is one of my favorite non-scifi(sort of) books, but it's definitely difficult to get into. i would recommend stephenson's 'the diamond age' as an introduction to his writing just because it doesn't have some of the more complicated elements that his other books have.

Just finished "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote a couple of days ago. Reeeeeeeeeeally good writing. I read through it like butter because his writing just flows and you understand everything the first time through.

Then I went to Barnes & Noble to pick up "Music for Chameleons" by Captoe also. It's been recommended by two people. But neither of the BN's had it. So I ordered it online on Saturday and am waiting for it. I get sad on my lunch breaks cuz I dont have a book to read.

Shut your mouth and think it out.

oh yeah I forgot in cold blood...I read that one inbetween illuminatus! and Schrodinger's cat.

I didn't like it as much it just wasn't a compelling read for me.

What a beautiful face
I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
What a beautiful dream
That could flash on the screen
In a blink of an eye and be gone ...

Sounds like it

Edit: have you read the various Dune books? The 6 that Frank Herbert wrote are amazing, but his son and Kevin J Anderson (worst sci-fi writer ever IMO) have made a real mess of the others.

I haven't read anything in quite some time, but I used to read plenty... To begin with, I really recommend the book Will, by G. Gordan Liddy. It is a very good book, about the guy who was directly involved with the Watergate Scandal (autobiography). It was a very interesting book, and well worth the time to read.

I also recommend all of the Left Behind Series. I enjoyed every book up to the 6th or 7th one. They are quick reading, but very entertaining. You just have to be sure that you are reading them as a fictional book, with just some biblical meaning. They are still just a person's opinion on how the end of world will happen. Very interesting, and entertaining.

I also really enjoy all John Grisham books. I have quite a few of them, and have really had a good time reading them. All are focused on lawyer stories, or on the defendant or prosecuter in court trials. They are really intersting.

Just a thought.... I don't know if you are interested in any of the genres above, but I figured I would help if I could.

Have you read any of the prequels or the new Hunters of Dune? Penny Arcade expressed my feelings about them quite nicely: Penny Arcade! - Honesty Time

Democracy in America - insanely accurate for being written in the mid 1800s
Crime and Punishment - gotta love those russians
Hocus Pocus - vonnegut, so it is good

Interesting. But just reading the reviews on amazon. It seems like this book would go waaaaaaay over my head. I know so little about writing, literature, and poetry. Would you say an average person could enjoy a book like this?
