Judging by some of the things I've seen called "art", you're born one.

Well, Why dont you just ask what is 'art'
Same question as: What is beauty? :: Everything/Everything

Everyone is an Artist.

"It is good that war is terrible, otherwise we would become over fond of it." - Robert E. Lee.

"You know, I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe."

You should consider yourself an artist when YOU think you're one.

Music is art. I'm a musician but I don't consider myself an artist. It depends on if you want to call yourself an artist.

Yeah, I think most people can simply consider themselves artists in some form or another.

as soon as you create art <----- this is a bs def.

i think any one who makes art(painting, photography, digital, music, linographs, all the different kinds of prints, or just throwing paint on a canvas works too)

i am saving my camel cash for a new lung

I think art is something that pushes the artist to their limits. It goes for everything to me. Like selling houses can be an art, so can painting. There's people who just draw or sell a house, then there's people that devote themselves to being the best at what they do. Art is pain and devotion.

Also, I fucking hate shitty art, or people who pretend they're artists. I went to the fair and they had pictures that 5 year olds drew. It was like a stick figure and an apple colored blue. That's not fucking art, that's a shitty drawing and a color blind 5 year old. Kids who don't know apples are red shouldn't be encouraged, they should be ridiculed.

yeah i agree! people like 50 cents, puff daddy, picasso, and jackson pollock should not be considered artists. especially pollock... a bunch of paint splatters on a huge canvas does not equal art. what a hack.

i hate it when non-artistic people go to a museum, act all artistic and shit, and look at some painting done with a bunch squares and circles (cubist stuff) and try to show off their so-called artistic "knowledge" blabbering bullshit about how it's so great

I'd say the point is reached, when you can get art-critics to say things like "I enjoy the raw energy eminating from the light-on-dark masses emoting anger and angst through their collective synergies", while the general public looks at your work and says "WTF!?!?!?"

Of course COMMERCIAL artists have a different level of entry, involving art creation. You become a GOOD artist, when people pay for your work.
