Wait so how do all the metal band names describe thier bands? I dont get how any names really do.

Looks like I'm in the minority. I didn't like most of the bands from the 90's like Nirvana and U2. Music seems to be getting better these days. That is, aside from the rap and hip-hop =)

The name is supposed to mimick the band. Their music plus their name, should paint a picture in your head of who they are. What does "Panic! At The Disco", "Minus the Bear", "Against Me!", or "We Are Scientists" do for their music? In all seriousness, it sounds like they just played a few games of mad lib to get their band names.

And as for DT, think about it. They're very smart musicians who can get the point across with their music quite well.

True, but you cant really slam a band because of their name. Bands have always had off the wall names. Even bands you like. Dont deny it, cause its true.

I would say give Against Me a shot, I fucking love them.

I dont know dude, its easy to put some stupid image with a metal band. And theyre all pretty cliche' in my opinion. Putting an image with the a band like Minus the Bear is pretty tough. Plus they arnt too serious with anything they name seeing as all their song names are something along the lines of: "Hey wanna throw up? Get me naked," and "Naked Crisco Twister."

A name is just something to identify your band, if you go around picking bands to listen to just becuase of thier name, thats a kind of assanine way of findng music. But with the (power) metal nitch that would probably work since the naming seems pretty symectical from band to band.

And dont think me some metal hater. Im enjoy metal on a casual level. But i'd say any of my music I ejoy on a casual level. I could sing along to a majority of Hammerfall songs.

Judging a band by its name is pretty ignorant.

Arctic Monkey's album is pretty good. YYY's newest is rather weak sauce compared to Fever to Tell.

ATM, I'm currently enjoying:

The Used (screamo, but reminds me of Lost Prophets)
Interpol (mellow)
Johnny Cash
Saves the Day (Sound the Alarm)
Arctic Monkeys

I tried Citizen Cope....it's not bad, not bad at all. On XM about all I keep the radio on is #5,6,7,8,& 9.....6&7 the most.

All of the new music that has been coming out really sucks as far as rock goes. All of it sounds like a bunch of 12 year olds screaming.

Yeah. Those who say music sucks nowdays arent giving it a fair shot. Judging bands by their names? Generalizing them all to 12 year olds? cmon guys.

Heres a huge list of bands. And heres a tip. If you stick to one style/genre of music you will end up finding everything you like and the rest of that style is shit. Start expanding on different styles. It keeps things interesting.

A Whisper in the Noise

Decemberists

ISIS

Animal Collective

Dredg

Circa Survive

Fischerspooner

Glassjaw

God is a Astronaut

Explosions in the Sky

Hot Water Music

Against Me!

Idiot Pilot

Mogwai

Modest Mouse

Neutral Milk Hotel

Pixies

The Receiving End of Sirens

Saosin

Refused

Sigur Ros

Sparta

At the Drive-In

These Arms are Snakes

It sounds like you just wanted to rip on American Music which has nothing to do with this thread :P
