SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A malicious computer worm has been found that targets Apple Computer Inc.'s Mac OS X operating system, believed to be the first such virus aimed specifically at the Mac platform.
So much for the superior OS...

I thought the first 'virus' was coded to spread on apple IIe's and was from the boot sector of a floppy disk...

coulda sworn the first virus targeted apples though. er wait. that was the first 'malicious program'. [quote]That honour goes to the Elk Cloner virus written by Richard Skrenta which infected Apple II machines.[quote] (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4630910.stm)

The flames are raging over at Geek.com. "It's not really a virus!"

Oh please, it is an OS with weaknesses just like any other.

I wonder when Mac users will start having to run AV software

I'm not an Apple fan, but according to what I've read, this isn't a worm - it's a trojan that requires user intervention before it can be activated. Every OS is vulnerable to being infected this way.

Edit: here's a good description of what it does: http://www.ambrosiasw.com/forums/ind...owtopic=102379

Everybody complains so much about Windows being insecure, and now OS X. Linux is insecure as well, but the fixes come quicker! Check this out (the letters in red mean security patches). And this.

Eh, one virus that needs to be manually installed vs. the thousands upon thousands on Windows and the handful for linux.

Linux is more flawed in the security field than OSX is.

Some day people will learn that to be truely secure and safe all you have to do is change your habits.

There is no perfectly secure OS just like there is no such thing as being 100% secure.

Eh in some ways. OSX will get hit harder though, because it is (will be) more mainstream. At least as far as viruses n shit goes. And by 'isn't too good about security', from what I have been reading, they suck ass at getting security updates out.
