I've met a number of these people in the past couple years. Matter of fact, I sort of ran into a cluster of them on the job. It seemed so strange.

2/3 of them flunked out of Meteorology. Well, maybe not flunked, but changed majors because they couldn't hack it. And Meteorology is no rocket science, trust me on this. I studied math and science extensively in a Holistic Healing program.

But, anyway, these guys and gals have their TVs turned on and the Weather Channel broadcasting when you walk into their appartments or hotel rooms. They are really into this.

Hey, I like a good thunderstorm. But this is the lamest segment of Geekdom.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, who'll give two shits in 100 years? Enjoy your life. But, meanwhile, I am going to enjoy mocking you.

Do we have any of these people here? Hard, pipe-hitting Weather Weirdos?

This may be a little obscure in the weirdo spectrum, and a "swing and a miss" thread, but i've been running into this crazy shit so it would be cool if there were people around here to discuss this.

i keep a wind guage with me, but thats about it.

i know people that are pretty anal about the weather, maybe a few here.. that buy the warning systems, the outdoors weather monitoring setups, digital panels with current stats, etc..

i dont think its weird, i see it, as kin to ham radio guys.

I knew a guy that watched it religiously. His reason was "there's never a re-run". But yeah, some boring stuff there.

I've set up several weather stations. I would like to get one just to log continuous data to evalaute my location for wind power. I live in the windy places.

Some of these people I've met know the names of the people on the weather channel. I've seen them get excited when they're favorite personality comes on or there is some breaking weather notice out in the far corner of nowhere. It's like sports and athletes to them. That is what I am talking about. It would be cool if there was one of these peeps here. Yes, I'm a little condescending about it, but people are people and I have far more to be ashamed of

That seems weird to me too....but when I had a tv I watched the weather reports allot because my job is outside and I'd like to know what I am up against....

But now I get it through the interweb....

I am me, and nobody else can be me, except for myself or I, but neither of them are here right now so leave a message.....

I just passed my meteorology class with a 96% and 3rd in the class. They offered me an intern spot at Channel 8 News. Bigwill has probably seen my professor on TV giving the reports.. as well as our North Carolina members.

The real meteorology porn is in satellite imagery/infrared and wind charts.

Oh and I take a bit of offense to you saying that Meteorology is no rocket science. The weather changes constantly and is very hard to predict. North American weather is particularly hard to predict since we don't have any coast to coast mountain ranges that block northern and southern wind flows like all of the other continents. That is why we have so many intense thunderstorms and tornadoes.

I don't mean to sound condescending but your holistic healing school may not have been the best place to learn a science.

I view meterology as another science. This planet is a living planet and the weather is
a significant part of the living proccess. But I don't go overboard, there are too many other sciences that my time needs to be divided up for in addition to.

Until now, never!before in Earth history, has mass extinction involved a choice.

I understand, you put in a lot of hard work. And you have a lot of disclaimers above amounting to the conclusion that you can never be held responsible for the results of your work (just kidding 80% tounge in cheek) Great job to have if you can get it!

Seriously, if you have any math problems, PM me for help. No promises, but I will try.

haha.. It's not my field of work. It's just for my minor in environmental science. Naturally the weatherman on TV is wrong most of the time.. but as long as you take it under advisement in addition to what you see in real-time on the weather channels then it becomes much more accurate. If anything, it's important for things like air quality alerts and sun flares and the like.

I like to go out an experience weather. But unless there is a weather emergency I only glance to see how I should dress or if I can mow the lawn.

Me too. I've always liked to stand in Summer rain. Wait, did I just turn this into that "If you could would you" thread?
