Notice how he dresses just like Steve Ballmer

All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can.

This “Microsoft is stealing from Apple!” crap is getting so old. Every company that makes a product takes queues from their competitors. Not to mention some features are just logical next steps. If you took two design teams and put them in bunkers on opposite sides of the world with no contact with the outside world they would produce similar products. And the RSS example that freaky-eye guy made was pretty laughable considering Netscape created RSS, and that Mozilla has been integrating it into its browsers forever. Do you think Microsoft has ever spent so much, or ANY time at one of their conferences talking about Apple? Not likely. It reminds me of the unpopular kids sitting around talking about the captain of the football team.

That said, I say again that if Apple thinks their OS is so great they should open it up to 3rd party hardware. Let the market decide. I would buy a copy for sure.

That might happen sooner than you think. With Apple using Intel chipsets now, it would seem to be a profitable venture to open up OSX. Also it since they aren't using it anymore, it might finally occur to Apple to let someone else make the chips they don't want. I'm sure VIA would jump for it.

OSX86 is out and people have proved running AMD machines with it. The only thing that stops a official OSX operating system is the EFI start up and Intel is releases EFI on regular motherboards too now. Sooner or later it will get cracked. I'll be running OSX86 on my laptop again and I'm building a cheapy OSX machine at home for kicks. I'll post a guide if people are interested enough.

The MS copying thing may be getting old, but it's as true as ever. I really love how they got caught trying to patent someone elses copied idea AFTER they admitted they copied his idea...

MS is the Bush Administration of the Corporate world! It's a pity that the competitors are all Kerrys and Deans...

Well, that's just low. Microsoft may not be that great a company when it comes to user's rights, but they aren't evil.

Apple copied the GUI from Xerox. Apple stole the mouse from Logitech. MS then stole Apple's decent GUI and made it better with their OS's. As previously stated, you can't not make the same shit in the software industry. (Without the double negative this sentence is funny)

I'd love to see what would happen if Apple decided to open up OS X. I'm sure poorly written drivers would cause the thing to crash all the time and, as it gained a larger user base, all sorts of undiscovered exploits, spyware, and viruses would be released for it, thereby invalidating its advantages. It's very easy to criticize Windows, but the truth is that any OS would struggle with the same problems if it was as widespread as Windows. With that said, Vista hasn't impressed me much so far. I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt by waiting for Microsoft to release SP1 and 3rd parties to release proper drivers instead of half-baked crap and betas.

Apple stole the mouse from IBM, as far as I knew. Actually, they didn't even steal it. The IBM yuppies laughed and said they would never market something called a "mouse", so Apple bought it from the people who built prototypes for IBM.

There is some truth to that but it is also untrue. Before Vista, any Windows OS was easy to exploit because there was so security on the users side. *nix and the Mac OS always needed a user name and password for something to install. That is a big difference on protection from malware/spyware etc.. Just because it isn't popular doesn't mean it's no one can write virus programs and stuff. They are going to have to work at it harder to exploit a linux and Mac OS.

Don't hold your breath. Apple makes their money from hardware sales, they have made it clear that they wish to keep it that way.

I have, but not much. Oregon Trail is about all I can remember. I'd like to have one but I simply refuse to pay so damn much for the hardware. Given the warranty (90 days) on those things I think they charge a king's ransom for their stuff. Sell me a decent notebook for about a grand and I might jump on it.

Like everyone said, you can only innovate so much with the GUI. The same can be said for every chat program out there, they all look and do the same thing. I also like how in the opening Steve Jobs is pretending how much they've been doing by showing a screen with the OSX icon and then all the stupid code names (Tiger and all that crap). Hooray for you Apple, you made the same OS with new features and sold it to people who actually thought they were getting a new product. Microsoft was doing the same thing but providing it in free updates. So yay, Apple has a better business model (or stupid customers), but guess who's still killing them in market share.
