| | UPS battery replacement question? | permalink #1 |
| Dont mess with old school | I've got a belkin UPS that the battery went dead (well it wont take a charge anymore), I've opened it up and checked the fuse and it's still good. My UPS uses a: 12v 5AH 350VA (190watts) Would I be able to one that's the same physical demensions but with these ratings: 12v 5AH 500VA (300watts) And if I can would it give me longer run time? The replacement batteries cost the same and they are cheap and since my ups is already dead I have nothing to lose. | |

| Some Random Person | the replacement battey won't last longer but it has a higher power output rating. 5AH=5 hours @ 1AMP. I've never replaced a UPS battery so im not 100 percent sure on this but it looks like it would work. just be careful if you try this. | |

| Senior Member | I would assume that it will give you longer runtime. I'm not sure if there's any kind of firmware in the UPS though that is tailored to a certain battery... I would try it. It can't hurt. | |

They use after market batteries for their stuff so there is no point in spending more money for their after market stuff. I think I'll get it. I'll let you guys know how it turns out and if you don't here from me in a two weeks assume it didn't go well and my house burnt down | ||

| Dont mess with old school | Nevermind. I just read this: http://www.dansdata.com/diyups.htm Which basically says that my cheap ups will more than likely not know my battery is higher capacity and either think something is wrong or not fully charge it which will shorten it's life span. However does capacity equal watts? My guess is no and capacity is related to AH? Correct? So if the AH is the same the capacity is the same but if the watts is higher then the available load is higher right? | |

| Dont mess with old school | That's where I was going to buy it from! So they are an ok place then? The reason I was looking at the other battery is because I like hacking things and making things better. | |
