An academic from Huddersfield University believes the standing stones had the right acoustics to amplify certain sounds.

The monument has baffled archaeologists who have argued for decades over the stone circle's 5,000-year history but academic Rupert Till believes he has solved the riddle by suggesting it may have been used for ancient raves.

Mr Till, an expert in acoustics and music technology at Huddersfield University, West Yorks., believes the standing stones had the ideal acoustics to amplify a "repetitive trance rhythm".

The original Stonehenge probably had a "very pleasant, almost concert-like acoustic" that our ancestors slowly perfected over many generations

Uhm... I'm not really much of a history buff, but is this even plausible?

Doesn't seem very plausible. Most likely just someone looking for his 15 minutes of fame with a ridiculous hypothesis.

I've heard so many theories about Stonehenge that it's hard for me to get excited about it, and this one is less plausible than most.

This sort of this did happen in antiquity, it's possible. The ball courts at Chichen Itza in Mexico for example. I've stood in the center and clapped my hands together and it always echos a certain number of times (7 I think). I just don't buy that it was done at Stonehenge.

There is only one way to find out!

.....Wiskas has to finish his time machine and we go back and ask them why they are building it....while they are building it!

Or some archeologist finds some documentation from someone who worked on it....

So Kip, as our official representative for all of the British Isles, how would an American tourist visit Stonehenge and actually get close to the monument? I've seen the queues around it, and it doesn't look like they let people get anywhere near it these days. Am I going to have to register as a Druid or something?

oh where do I start

To become a 'druid' is like going to a psychic fair, the date is never advertised, you just have to know when to go

Why do you want to go and look at a heap of rocks? Why don't you 'google earth' it or go to any of the millions of sites about it?

If you have a bit of 'daring do' go to the aforementioned pile of rocks before dawn and have a walk round at 1st light and then run like fuck when the police / stewards turn up

Please don't go on the "summer solstice' as you will be stampeded out of the way by loads of old men dressed up in strange clothes and scantily clad women Hey whiskas and fk8r I can get us in for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!! maybe there is hope for the wrinklies yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, due to the volume of visitors 'the henge' is protected which is a shame, but, if it protects it for future generations to ponder its use I'm all for a hands off policy.

also I'm lucky coz I got taken when I was a kid and climbed all over the place there, excellent!
