you can skip the validation, atleast you could in the earlier version

All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can.

Try these in this order. You may end up needing all three, but generally the first two work for me:

1) Spybot Search and Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
2) Adaware - http://www.lavasoft.com/
3) Spysweeper (trial version) - http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/spysweeper/

Also, you may need to scan from within Safe Mode if you've got a particularly nasty infection.

You have "Spyaxe". It's a trojan/spyware by a bonus anti-spyware company. Illegal by many standards. This might help you.

Mmm, bacon.

Your rank should be uber-noob

First off, any respectable computer user knows norton products suck (except ghost).
Second, there are always alternative ways to get software.
You can get ms antispyware here without any validation:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_...are_d4466.html

And lastly in this day and age with firefox, opera and adblock, you shouldn't be getting any spyware in the first place! Especially when all said software is free.

Norton Anti-virus is fine. I believe when PC Magazine did a shootout they picked it over McAfee and a few others. I use the Computer Associates e-Trust right now because of the 1 year free trial.

I disagree. I have an office with 25 computers and they were all running norton system works with automatic updates on it. Not only did a majority have viruses on them but common things like homepage hijacks were allowed to happen.

The problem with norton products (besides being a resource hog) is that, just like internet explorer, because it's a widely used program allot of attention is given to it in the malware community to either find and exploit flaws, or to simply disble it and go around it.

And this page to me is the most important:
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...96,pg,7,00.asp

Most spyware programs detect and remove after the fact, in the chart above you can see which programs prevent non wanted spyware changes.
Everyone should take note at how poorly adaware does and especially spy bot.
