| Senior Member | So, I just became conscious during REM sleep, I could feel my eyes banging back and forth and my body was paralyzed. Ever happen to anyone else? I tried to induce a lucid dream, but was unsuccessful, so I just waited until I was able to move again. |

| I Am The Black Wizards | Haven't had it happen, but I've heard of it. I can't recall if it's common or not, or whether or not it's bad. Damn, I'm going to have to look it up. I remember knowing why it happened.. |

| Cheap Bastard | I think something like this happened to me once. I was paralyzed and scared shitless, but I kept fighting it until, eventually, I snapped out of it. Indeed, one of the most horrible experiences I've had. |

| Indigenous Nudist | thats badass!! sounds like a horrid experience though waking up half asleep and not being able to move.. but i'll tell you whats scary as well.. waking up with your arm asleep(sleeping on it, cutting circulation) and you're slinging it lifelessly around trying to wake it up.. frantic thinking your arm is permanently dead... iv woken up several times like that and scared me. |

| gallagher is funny. | do you guys think any serious damage can occur from your limbs losing circulation while you're sleeping? because i wake up with my arms asleep pretty much every day... haven't experienced any problems personally. but kinda worried something might happen later on. like muscular dystrophy or something.... |

| outside the box! | I think I've awoken with something like arms, legs asleep all the time for many decades. So far, nothing is damaged from it. |

So what he experienced is normal. You're just unaware of it usually because not everybody tries lucid dreaming | |

| is not Scooby | Hasn't happened to me, but I gave a friend some morning glories and he woke up at 4:00 and couldn't move, yet had to pee. Needless to say, he pissed himself because he couldn't move. |

| Not Just Handsome | I've had it happen a couple of times and it scares the crap out of me. I can control my breathing though so I start to breath as hard as possible to kind of disturb my body awake and it usually works. |
| Shut your mouth and think it out. | |

| Not Just Handsome | How scary would it be to envision that as how death is. |

| Raptor Jesus | My right arm has been asleep lately after waking up.. I'm sleeping on my roommates couch til next month so it's not the most comfortable way to sleep. Anyway, my forearm and wrist have been hurting really bad because of it. I think carpal tunnel? I hope not. As for being aware you're in REM sleep and not being able to move, I've had that happen numerous times. It can be a very scary experience. |

| Resident Cynic | Not totally related, but a guy I know who is/was an alcoholic drank so much he passed out for a full day on his arm. When he woke up he had killed the circulation for so long that he caused nerve damage and could barely do simple functions with his hand. I'm pretty sure it scared him sober which is good, but what a shitty thing to happen. |

| Has Absolutely no life | When we would go to Bears games and leave at 6am then I would go to sleep in the back of the RV it would happen. I hated that shit it freaked me out and it was hard to breathe. |

| Senior Member | Can't these be considered night terrors? I remember Torx, you made a thread not too long ago about a night terror you had and how scary it was. About 3 weeks ago i experienced this sleep paralysis/night terror for the first time (or at least as long as I can remember). Basically, it was one of the scariest experiences I've ever had. My girlfriend's dorm room was dark and I was sleeping on the floor because her bed is really small this year. But a terrible feeling came over me after I woke up to find myself semi-conscious and paralyzed, like something was on the brink of coming out of the darkness. I felt my girlfriend sort of wriggle herself out of her bed, lean down into my face and say, "I want you to get me", but the whole time I couldn't actually see her doing it. At this point, I was scared shitless and the only thing I could do was moan really loud in an attempt to wake my girlfriend up to wake me up. It finally worked and she heard it and shook me awake. She said when she woke up and looked at me, my arm was extended towards her. Last edited by NoPunIntended; 10-15-2007 at 08:12 PM.. |

| Senior Member | i can tell you, that last night i had a horrible feeling of dread and just paranoia when i woke up and realized what was going on. in fact, when i could move again, i didn't want to open my eyes out of fear of what would "be there" when i opened them. |
