So, i'll be working in Seattle for the summer(may 12-aug 12 or thereabouts).

Any tips on fun things to do? What's the weather like?
I'll be living downtown. Will there be a problem getting groceries?
I'll be using the bus system, so how convenient is that? Is it usually on time?

I'm sure i'm forgetting tons, so feel free to just tell me about the place.

Thanks.

P.S. Happy birthday to me.

Don't have much to say about Seattle in the summer, I was only there in the fall.

But Happy Birthday nonetheless.

The weather should be fantastic by that point. It's one of the great secrets of the northwest: our summers are usually stellar.

Living downtown has pretty much every amentity you'll ever need. You'll be fine getting groceries. Where abouts will you be living?

The bus system is alright in Seattle (but I've been spoiled by Portland/Vancouver). Once you figure out your commute and start planning accordingly, it should be no problem.

As for stuff to do, it really depends on what you're into. There is fantastic beer, food, art, and music if you're into that stuff.

Welcome to 'The Great Pacific Northwest' in advance. You'll have no hard time finding things to do in Seattle. Portland, Vancouver and Seattle are awesome areas (for metros) , but I prefer the natural wonders of the PNW.

Seattle is great in the summer. Well, last summer was not that great, but it usually is.

What brings you to my city?

seattle is amazing in the summer time. i recommend checking out discovery park and just wandering around. downtown is alright, but getting out into the neighborhoods is where it's at. 950 and i live about 5 minutes north of downtown in northgate. and the bus system is alright. some are late, some are on time. where are you staying and what are you going to be doing here?

I'll be living on 8th ave iirc. I have an internship with Amazon

So...what does 'amazing weather' actually mean? What's the temperature going to be like? Will it rain every other day like everybody says?

Is there a zoo? I like zoos.

There is a zoo, the Woodland Park Zoo, it's not all that big but it's pretty good. The weather is usually in the 70s-80s and it almost never rains in the summer time on a normal year.

There's good music, sports, nightlife, and plenty of culture. There are museums, parks, and festivals pretty frequently.

Summers are very nice there. 65-80 degrees is typical of summer days and it'll be very green outside. It might rain a bit, but not nearly as much as in other seasons.

For walking to get groceries, Seattle is one of the best places around. There's a huge public market and many smaller / good stores like Whole Foods.

The bus system is quite good in Seattle and many people rely on it every day for work. It's lightyears beyond what you might find in most U.S. cities.

Edit: Happy Birthday and congrats on the internship!

ya the bus system is good IN seattle. there is buses all over the the metro area but it pretty much sucks unless you are in seattle or at least GOING to seattle. I live in kent, which is just outside of seattle. i worked in kirkland...which is also outside of seattle a bit (about 25 miles from me). i would had to take like 4 buses and it take 6 hours to get from Kent to Kirkland. sorry...not an option. If I wanted to go to seattle, it's a lot easier. Luckily, I live and work in Kent now so it's no big deal.

So...i'm in WA at my cousin's house until this weekend when I move into my apartment in Seattle.

Turns out there are no Chase banks in the area. Any suggestions on a bank to use in the short term while here?

I do all my banking through a credit union, so I don't have much to suggest. Emily uses Bank of America though.

And the weather for the weekend is supposed to be sort of crappy, I guess Friday is supposed to be good... eh, its still not the nice spring weather

The west coast, may not get the weather we're used to this year. The jet stream is no where near being settled into the usual flow. It's usually in the 80's and 90's by now and we're running 15-20 cooler and alot wetter than usual. in two years, our weather did a complete flip-flop.
