Went on an excursion over the weekend. Just gassed up the car and went north.

This ended up being the rout....824 miles total.

Going through the Willamette Valley:

Goofing off:

Last time I saw Saint Hellens from this viewpoint, it was 1000+ feet higher:

I used to live in Seaside, but it didn't look like this then:

Cannon Beach:

Whoah! 1100 feet up:

The end of day one:

This is what I really came to the North Coast to see:

Moon Jellys...they are the size of basketballs:

Salmon....about 14 inches long:

(MSP)The following are great representations of what it's like to dive on the
Oregon coast...provided you can get down on a day with good visibility.

A sea trout...speared many of these in my day:

Kelp bass...the one in the back is my main quarry, a Black Snapper (AKA rock cod)

Some common sea anenomeis:

This guy isn't living on our coast anymore...killed off.
Sea Otter, this one's 6 feet long:

My favorite sea bird....the puffin:

There are 200 feet of walks through these tubes...cool!

After the trip through the aquarium, went down to the Newport Bayside Docks and bought some freshly caught rock cod....just ate some for dinner....now that's good seafood!

Decided to spend the rest of the day going down the coast hunting lighthouses....we found a few:

There are hundreds of these signs on the coast now:

The second day is coming to a close. The North End of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area:

Found a field that was full of elk on the way home:

It was the perfect weekend and the herd of elk (I only took shots of the bulls...there were probably 30 elk in the herd) was the perfect topper for the trip.

My 47 year old smoker lungs would probably have me gasping for breath at that altitude. I have spent many, many days around the 4500 elevation. I love the mountains, the Cascades are my favorites, with the Sierras and Siskiyous a close second.

(from NYC)

Nice, I've been to just about all of those places as well. I was at that light house about two months ago when I went down to visit my brother.

Portland and Seattle are the only metros that I'd even concider living in.
That photo of the coastline is from US highway 101 just south of Tillamook. I got dizzy looking down at the sea from there. There are literally hundreds of vistas like that on 101.
