So I’m thinking of getting a new monitor, I’ve got a LG 995GT PLUS CRT right now, great monitor and there’s nothing wrong with it, but I’ve got an 17 Samsung LCD at work and it looks so nice and crisp, and if I upgrade now I will still be able to get something for my CRT :P

I had originally wanted to go with a Dell 20’ widescreen, but after seeing a few 20’ widescreens in person, they seem abit small, widescreen would be awesome, but the height is the size of a 17’ :/. Also they cost about $560 Cnd.

The other setup’s I’m considering is either running dual 17’s, or ideally dual 19’s. Having dual monitors and being able to have 2 separate screens would be awesome, I’m always doing like 10 different things at once as it is, being able to watch a movie and talk on MSN/ do stuff would be nice

The prices for regular LCD’s are a lot more reasonable aswell, I’ve been looking at dell monitors a lot, I’ve heard really good things about there LCD’s. all the monitors I’m looking at are viewable here.
http://accessories.dell.com/sna/cate...n&s=dhs&~ck=mn

the prices are way off, but at least you can see the monitors

DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD is the wide screen monitor I’m considering and the DELL UltraSharp 1905FP 19-inch Flat Panel is the regular LCD I’m looking at. Pay not attention to the costs on the side, they are on sale like 75% of the time for around $560 for the 20’ Widescreen and $350 for the 19’. The reason I’d do 19’ over 17 Is because its less then $15 more when there on sale.

I’ve seen the 20’ widescreen on dells site for as low as $519 CND.

Regardless of witch I go with right now I’d only be getting 1, but if I go with the regular 19’ LCD I do plan to get another in the future down the road.

What do you guys think? I’m open to suggestions, I’d consider a dual 17’ setup if someone can recommend me a good cheaper alternative, they would need to be about $280 Cnd each, I don’t want to go much over $500 on them.

Nah, it's all good in Off Topic.

Dual 17 or 19 inch Dells would be my suggestion. As you know I have dual Dell 17' Ultrasharps and am very pleased. So much so that I've pretty much given up replacing one with a larger monitor. 19's might actually be too big for my desk.

But I got mine for free. If I had bought them I would have gotten the 19s...

Well, duh!

It was funny, I walked into my boss's office on Tuesday and said "Hey boss, I took a few LCD monitors home over the holdiay break for "testing" purposes <wink wink>." She said "Yeah, I need a couple of those too. I'll pull my car around to the front of the building..." ROFL!

bump.

Help a brother out.

the more I think about it, the more I think i'm going to go the 19' root.

the dell looks great for the money, does anyone recomend anything else? from what i've seen looking around lately, that dell at 350Cnd appears to be by far the best deal. That being said, I spend a huge chunk of my time at this computer, so if there's something out there thats considerably better, i'm open to idea's.

Don't go with the Dell. Save your hard earned money.

Here is a 19 inch that is 140 bucks cheaper than the comparible Dell:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...8&Sku=H94-1900

The quality looks good. The reviews were good. 3 year warranty. Go with it.

Hannspree? Never heard of them.

What's wrong with Dell anyway? They seem to be kicking major ass in all of the reviews I've seen.

EDIT: Samsungs are getting great reviews too.

nothing is wrong w/ Dell at all...the reason I know the price of the Dells is b/c thats where I looked to first. I know they make quality stuff. All I'm saying is that $140 is $140, and he seems concerned about $$$. They also have a 3 year manufacturer warranty for the Hanspree monitor.

Oh, that makes sense. Still, doesn't quite seem like apples to apples to me. I mean, Dell is a major brand and having worked with them for years can say they are good quality. The number of Dell LCDs I've had to call in on warranty repair? Zero. Given how many I've deployed (hundreds), that's saying a lot.

given the mood I was in when I was on the phone with KDS a few times 3 years ago trying to get my faulty monitors replaced, I say that is saying a whole lot .

I guess it comes down to:

-low price and higher risk (unknown quality level).

or

-moderate price with minimal risk (known quality level).

i'm not to concerned with the price, I;m willing to spend the $550 or so it will cost for the Dell 20' Widescreen if i decide its the best monitor, but i'm worried its going to see small compared to my 19' i have right now (its 17' high and 19' wide)

plus the regular 19 is $200 cheaper, and I could later run duals witch would be nice.

i'd prefer to stick with Dell, or atleast a brand I've heard of and know will be good quality, like i said, I spend a huge chunk of time on it, I use my computer at home for everything most movies, gaming, reading/work, music/tabs for music. I want something I will be happy with.

Dual monitors are so much nicer than widescreen in my opinion. I'd go dual 19s if you can.

i'm thinking that aswell, I think I'm going to order myself one soon and then pick up another one down the road

anyone have any recommendation's? i've always loved NEC's CRT's I found the had the nices color, but i've stuck with LG and viewsonic for the most part.

as far as LCD's this will be my first, i've used a few samsungs at work and they seem awesome, and i've seen some viewsonic's at costco that looked very very nice. I've never seen the dell in person and have read a few negative things about them wich is scaring me, I hate ordering someing like that online without atleast seeing and playing around with it first :/
