As you can see, we've made some pretty major changes to the site. There are now several new post icons that we've created for our users. The point of these icons is to allow you to quickly understand the gist of a thread or what it's going to include without actually reading it. It should also help you determine which threads are especially worthy of your attention.

I admit we are not the best artists in the world but we did spend some time making these icons. If you dislike them, we encourage you to either:
1) Create your own. As long as you make a GIF file that's 55x18 pixels in size, static or animated, we will consider it as a new post icon. This could be as replacement for ours or as a new icon altogether (we'll be more selective about this).
2) Tell us which icons suck and (ideally) give us suggestions on what to change about them.

If you mouse-over an icon you should get a title telling you what it's about if it's not obvious. We've edited some old posts for examples.

Also - we've merged the NSFW and Drugs forum into one NSFW forum. With the icons it should be easier to determine just WTF you're getting into on that section now. Thanks for your support and I hope you use them.

If you really hate the idea of these icons, we should discuss it here. Please realize this is our rough draft and we'll do our best to improve it.

I don't know if I would go as far as saying its like myspace. I like how it draws more attention to certain posts. Sometimes the titles of a thread just don't interest me enough to click on them.

A few forums I used to frequent had thread icons like that and I think it's kind of helpful (especially when thread titles are sometimes vague). But I liked t3d the way it was, too. Basically, I'm indecisive. How like a woman

Well I can understand not enjoying the change, but it doesnt mean you wont like it eventually. Dan and I talked about it a long time, and we have been wanting to do this change for some time now. The reasons why we think it will be beneficial can be cut down to thread awareness and thread attraction. The fact is, most people here post undescriptive or weird titles either on purpose or not. These icons help differentiate between the threads as to content and intent of the poster.

You could say that it defeats the point of certain titles, but as I explained earlier that you are not forced to put the right icon or title for your posts as long as NSFW content is labeled as such or put into the right forum if it is more extreme. This is a minor issue and Im sure you all agree, your major complaint is the way things look. You guys think it makes it cluttered or just too much stuff. I believe that once you take some time, a few days or so, to get used to them, you will understand the differences between them. You will notice them and what they are. They will then become tools to help you pick what you want to read vs just basing it off of the title. Give it a try before fighting. I remember when we changed the theme, and other changes, people didnt like it cause they werent used to it. Well ween yourself from the teet, its a big world out there and you are going to have to eat solid foods sometime.

As you guessed though we arent just going to change it up right now. We may after some time ( a few weeks ) reevaluate the change and see where everyone is and how people are using the forums. So please enjoy them and not complain, it can be hard on us who spend so much time trying to do cool and nice things for you guys, and you punch us in the face and spit on us. Maybe not that bad, but it would be nice to be complimented once in a while for the work we do here. Keep posting and definitely pay attention to any post icons you feel dont fit or just are bad. Read the OP for instructions on that.

Looks a little out of place. There aren't enough threads to begin categorizing like this. We barely move a page of threads a day.

Well thats the thing, we want more threads and more posts. So keep at it!

I made a thread about it two weeks ago, but Torx was the only one that complained then, so I probably spent about 20 hours making this all work.

BTW - Check the sections like NSFW and Tweak Market now, and you'll see how helpful the icons can actually be. Assuming the OT crowd made some suggestions for icons or created their own (it takes only a few minutes to create one), I think we'd have a general agreement that they are pretty useful.

This was our main reason for adding them. On a given week in OT, there will probably be 3 or 4 threads with titles like "Oh Shit" or "WTF" and it's not only impossible to tell them apart, but it's also very difficult to find out which ones are worth following up on later.

I'd like for there to be an option to turn them off, whether it be in our profile options or a theme without them or something.
