In case you haven't heard, S.2248 just recently passed the senate. This of course extends the surveillance act and indemnifies the telecoms from any civil action resulting from this illegal surveillance.

While I admire your desire to protect the American people from acts of terrorism, I do not admire your support for the measure S.2248. Giving our government whose job it is to serve the people the power to violate our privacy and indemnify those that allow this violation to occur in the name of national security is wholly un-American.

Our founding fathers would be ashamed if they were privy to the state of which our nation's freedoms have been slowly eroded away. We are not a nation of fear. We are a nation of pride and laws. Our basic freedoms are being violated and laws are being broken in the name of fear.

It is my fervent hope that our nation's legislators will come to their senses and remember the document we hold so sacred on which this country was built. This measure is unconstitutional and in violation of the very principles upon which this country was founded.

McCain voted for it. Obama and Clinton strangely abstained from the vote. In my mind that is just as bad. I can't say I'm surprised to see JDR is the sponsor.

I went ahead and sent it. I've generally had pretty good luck with the senators getting back to me when I e-mail them so we'll see what happens!
