Well since some bastard stole my phone, my girlie is gettin me a new one for christmas. Now I've never really been big on phones, but since i will be getting a new one, i might as well get a cool one.

I had it narrowed down to the Motorola W600i for 150 after 100 mail in rebate, btu then i saw that cingular has the Palm Treo 650 (refurb) for 140.

now this has me in a bind

The features on the treo are better, but it's bigger, and not as cool lookin, plus im not sure how often i need a PDA. However, the price is less, I don't have to deal with any rebates, and the ebst aprt is the phone has expandable memory using SD cards.

now the w600i is a sharp phone, bt it has a smaller screen, only 512mb of memory, isnt expandable, and isnt as powerful. But it would be NIB, and has a FM radio built into it. the audio quality may be a bit higher as well, but i couldnt say. Another downside, is with the smaller screen web surfing might suck on it, and that is something i intend on doing quite a bit.

anyway do any of yall have experience with eitehr phone? which way would you go? ATM I'm leaning toward the treo, mainly because of the larger screen,expandable memory, and lower price point

I've played with the Palm Treo 650 and it's bad ass. If Nextel would have offered one I would have it now. Followed by the RAZR, and what I eventually bought - the Nextel i850.

The cingular treo 650 is garbage. It looks good on paper but the software is pretty buggy. I have one and I stopped using it and went back to my nokia 6620. The 6620 is pretty bad ass itself, it's old now and it isn't pretty but in terms of power, software, and usability it beats anything out right now.

The w600 looks nice but what kills it for me is that the memory is not expandable and it has a weak 1 megapixel camera.

In all seriousness... for those close to the border, come to Canada, buy a phone with contract (really cheap) From Rogers, and call in and cancel within 30 days buyer's remorse. The exchange rate (and straight-up lower prices) make it way cheaper all around for GSM phones (IE 650, Razr).... the Razr goes for Free-$50 CDN now... and they're REALLY easy to unlock with a USB cable, or call 1-800-335-4685 and ask for Matt Zeleny between 10pm and 6:30am except for Wednesday and Thursday mornings (Tues, Wed. Night) and I can get the unlock code for Rogers phones for use with Cingular SIMs.

I can get unlock codes for Cingular customers, you need a line with us. As for unlocking, you need to have a line active for 90 days (sometimes I can fudge it) and I send a request for it. For other carriers, I just need to include the carrier name in the form to unlock it for use with the Cingular SIM. You need to call International Wireless Care (1 800 335 4685) to get your phone unlocked, and we'll call you with the code and instructions as per unlocking.

EDIT: I'm at work right now.

EDIT 2: Also, once you have me on the line, don't mention that you're from the forum, instead ask me to call you back on a landline and give me the number. Mention that you're from the forum after I call you back. That way the call won't be recorded and I can't catch shit for doing this.

The reason I ask is because I do plan on getting the N80 and if nokia doesn't release an oem version I will have to find another source, most likely from rogers.


SO.....if I get a rogers phone, you could unlock it? I'm on the at&t side of cingular though.

Oh... daymn. Sorry to hear that. You'll have to migrate your plan to Cingular side... just getting a new SIM. Buy the phone first, then migrate and tell them you won't need a new phone. Then call us and have us unlock it. If you want to PM your wireless number I could look into for you some more.

Also, N80, good choice. I want an N90 though... mmm GSM/CDMA dual technology....

I just got the PPC-6700 for Sprint. It's awesome. Windows Mobile 5.0 with a flip out keyboard on the side that works great. Highly recommended pda/phone combo. Phone is GREAT quality too. I'm very impressed with this device.
