this dam, the 173 old wooden one thats about to burst and flood a city. why didnt someone replace it say 100 years ago. or maybe in 1968 when the fucking thing burst then. seriously. fucking stupid people.

Quote:
The 12-foot-high Whittenton Pond Dam dates to 1832, and is near homes and businesses. It was built to power a textile mill but no longer has any industrial purpose. The city last flooded in 1968, when the same dam broke.

And look they are going to lobby for money to fix it, how about we just fix it and not go thru the bueracratic process.

I make myself laugh.

That leads to bigger problems down the road, unfortunately.

Such as the dam not breaking and not flooding a town and not being a major cause of evacuation and not ending up costing millions of dollars and lives?

My complaint is that this local issue will be 'fixed' with national tax payer money.

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. -- Ronald Reagan

No, such as regulations and such being bypassed again and again.

Sure, the ones that held up the dam were stupid (no pun intended), but what if they start bypassing other regulations due to it? It's worse in the long run.

Ok so while everyone waits for the red tape to clear, we'll hope that the dam doesn't burst and cause another New Orleans (albeit on a smaller scale). Should be comforting to the townspeople to know that Ted Kennedy and John Kerry were stumbling around promising "quick" federal assistance.

And I know someone's going to flame me for this. Whatever. Human life is more important than a stupid regulation in a stupid rulebook.
