Quote:
ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) -- A 93-year-old driver apparently suffering from dementia fatally struck a pedestrian and drove for three miles with the man's body through his windshield, police said.

Ralph Parker was stopped after he drove through a tollbooth on the Sunshine Skyway, Traffic Homicide Investigator Michael Jockers said. The toll taker called police, he said.

Parker was not likely to face charges because he did not appear to know what happened or where he was, said Bruce Bartlett, chief assistant in the Pinellas-Pasco County State Attorney's Office.

"He may have somewhere in his mind have realized it was a crash, but immediately forgot about it," Jockers said.

The victim's leg was severed in the Wednesday night crash, police said. The man, whose name was not released, was 52.

Parker had renewed his license in 2003.
Who in the fuck renewed his license? This person should be tried with negligence. I've personally witnessed old people being given licenses when they had to be led around the BOMV, and couldn't pass the eye exam without help...

Abuela ridin' in style...I vote the use of Razors for senior citizens! It's safer, cheaper than a car, they can be the victims and it'll make them look younger.

Honestly, if you give someone a license who clearly can't control a vehicle and it results in death, injury, or damaged property you should bare at least some of the responsibility. I see these blue hairs driving around my town all of the time and they are simply unfit to pilot a vehicle...

I caused a scene at the DMV over this one time. This frail, wobbly old woman was led up to the vision testing station and could only read the top few lines (aka the BIG fucking letters). After about the 3rd retry I said "Am I the only person that finds this disturbing? If we give her enough tries she can memorize the damn chart..." People were whispering and I overheard one woman say "What a jerk...." So I looked at her and said "Would you like her driving through a crosswalk of your child's school? I didn't think so." Stupid fucking people. Driving is not a right, it's a privilege.

That is kind of a jerk move though. Kinda messed up to yell it out loud like that.

I agree though, if you can't pass the test, you can't drive. I hope she was declined.

Kinda like that guy smoking the other day while pumping gas into his car. I was an asshole and spoke up then too, but as with the case of the old lady the lives of myself and my family could have been affected so I believe it was appropriate. Silently sitting by while this shit happens isn't the way to go at all.

how is that being a jerk? would you tell someone they were stupid if they gave a baby a steak knife?

I would, and that baby couldn't do 1/10000 of the damage some crazy ass old lady would if she craps her pants and falls asleep at the wheel at some intersection.

If you're over the age of 65, as soon as you enter the state of Florida your automobile should be taken away and you should be issued... :

I don't propose old people be discriminated against at all. I think there needs to be regular reflex, vision, and driving testing for EVERYBODY. There's a guy that works at our plant in Little Rock that's middle aged and blind as a bat, and he drives.

I agree with you Hallbe.. The ammount of old farts driving here in SFL scares the shit out of me. Each time I see a Cady or a Crown Vic driving at 30mi, I know it's a stupid old fart driving, straining their eyes trying to see (not watch) the road with their nose 1 inch away from the steering wheel. At that point I quickly drive away not so much because eventually I get tired of driving SO slow but because I am afraid that the old fart might get scared because he is driving at 31mi, slam the breakes and cause a major accident...
In my opinion when a person is over 65, he/she should be tested anually by a special panel who actually knows what a person like that might cause and do not give licenses away (the same way to drivers under 18... Anybody remembers Ali's accident?)

You're the real thing,
Even better than the real thing.
