| Globe Trekker | I basically have two full free days in Southern California this weekend and am looking for something to do. Any suggestions? Money is not really an object, but I'd prefer not to blow half a grand. |

| Globe Trekker | Good idea, but I've already driven that fast. Stuff I've already done out here: Explore Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Bel Air. Drive the Pacific Coast Highway from Newport Beach to Malibu Disney |

| The Underwriter | You could get a Saigon Whore. That shouldn't bust your budget at all lol. Just avoid the ones that bite your noses off. |

| Habitual line stepper | MSP, You suck. You should have been down here last weekend, or any other weekend for that matter. You could've gone paintballing with my buddies and I(that just sounds like I are teh 2nd grade). The one weekend that we aren't paint'n. If you're bored, I suggest park, ones owned by the state or the federal gov. Santa Rosa is pretty fun to walk/jog/ride, and its free if you can sneak by the old person in the parking area. Santa Rosa is only one example, and I only used it becouse, its about a mile away. |

| Formerly jag_e_fattig | take a ridiculous road trip no sane person would ever do. drive from wherever you're staying (LA i presume) to a little shit hole town in northern san diego county called "valley center". there you will find a restaurant called fat ivor's rib rack. the place is famous; people drive all the way from the city of san diego - over an hour if theres no traffic (yeah right) - just to eat there. the beef ribs are fucking ridiculous and after 5pm it's all you can eat for like 15 bucks. since they have such a high turnaround the ribs are always 100% fresh. the cole slaw is also awesome. other than fat ivor's, the only thing to see near valley center is the pala casino on the pala indian reservation. it's like the size of a smaller vegas casino with some pretty good gambling and food. i'd say it takes about 20 minutes to drive from fat ivors to the casino. i can give you directions to and from wherever you want if you are interested. |

| Formerly jag_e_fattig | since you've never driven in and to that area before i would allocate 2 hours from anaheim just to be safe. i can give you directions for the quickest route if you want. my house is like 10 mins max from fat ivors. too bad i'm in MA at college right now or we could have dinner or something. the casinos (yes plural) close to valley center are worth checking out. pala casino, the one i mentioned is the biggest one but there are at least 5 other ones within 15 miles. i've driven to and from orange county a hajillion times so i know an excellent route. EDIT: its a shame you're not going during the summer. theres a weekly friday night classic/muscle car cruise event in esondido, a north sand diego county city, called cruisin' grand (bc it's on grand ave.). i believe its the biggest regular cruising event in southern california. they only allow cars pre '74 to park on the street during the evening, speakers set up along the whole blvd play '50s and '60s music, they have hula hoop competetions, bubble gum blowing competetions and a bunch of otehr shit. hundreds and hundreds of cars show up every week. it's a sight to see. |

| Globe Trekker | I would probably drive to Newport beach and follow the Pacific Coast Highway down to Carlsbad. I'll have lots of time... |

| Formerly jag_e_fattig | heres how to get there if you're in carlsbad: X drive north on the pacific coast highway until it ends. it will turn under the I5 and become highway 76 east. Note: you can also take the I5 north and get off at the hwy 76 exit. whichever you prefer. X follow hwy 76 for about 10 miles. it will become a 2 lane road eventually. X turn right onto east vista way. it's the first light after turning into two lanes, so you cant miss it. X turn left onto gopher canyon road. also the first light, so you cant miss it. X follow gopher canyon rd all the way until you get to the I15. you will NOT get on the freeway. cross under it and turn right at the traffic light onto champagne blvd. X take the first left onto old castle road and follow it for about 8 miles. about halfway it will turn into lilac road, but you wont even notice. X turn right onto valley center road at the light at the end of lilac road. fat ivors will be less than a mile down the way on your left. there will be a slight, sloping right curve in the road. mid curve you will see the sign for fat ivors. its literally right there, you cant miss it. |

| outside the box! | Been there done that at 90 feet....scarey as hell. I was following a school of huge black snappers (black rockcod) along a rock ridge and ran out. Got so into shooting the big ones that I forgot to check my guages. Man, when that air runs out, it runs totally out. 90 seconds minimum to reach the surface. When we dive for hunting, we usually end up diving alone as the viz is low and you loose your buddy in a matter of minutes. Most our hunting happens in 35-45 feet of water so getting to the surface on empty isn't a problem. I've thought about free diving for fish but I don't have the lung capacity to do well in that sport. |

| Original Gangsta | at what depth is decompression time necessary? running out air is a scary ass prospect... especially at a depth where the bends can get ya if you gotta get up quick. i still remember seeing the discovery channel show on jocque cousteau and when he got it, horrible stuff. |

| outside the box! | Yeah, the bends never goes away...once you've gotten it, your diving days are pretty much over. Decompression requirements are contingent on what depth you dive, the ammount of time spent at depth, that'll determine how much nitrogen is in your system. Decompression allows the body time to reduce the nitrogen in your system thus preventing bubbles from forming in your joints and muscles. While diving at less than 60 feet or two atmospheres, I don't even bother with decompression at 15 ft. I'm not usually in the water long enough due to limitations of a single 80 cu. ft. tank of air...around 45 min. to 1:10 minutes, depending on depth of the dive, the effort taken to swim currents and the physical activity of the dive. When I ran out at 90 feet, I wasn't worried about a 15 foot decompression because I wasn't at 90 feet for the whole dive. As dive computers are not the most accurate at judging depth, I stayed well below the smallest bubbles while rising. No greater than 1 foot per second ascent rate......that was a long 90+ seconds, I'll tell you. Funny thing though, While you're ascending, the air in your lungs expands, so you never quite run completely out of breath. You just let it out slowly(I hum a tune and that does the trick) and it just keeps exhaling all the way to the surface. |

| Globe Trekker | Damn Wiskas! That is some scary shit. As for the bends never going away, I wasn't under that impression at all. Once the nitorgen bleeds out of your system you should be good to go again. |
