Because we haven't had one in a while I thought we'd make a mega-thread for issues around him. (Plus if we put it in one place it won't flow over into other threads.)

First news, he chooses Joe Biden as his running mate. Thoughts?

Second piece of news on Obama, in the interest of fairness, CNN and Fox News refuse to air ad linking Obama and Bill Ayers (which is true). Here's the "B-Cast" link on it. Thoughts on this one?

I was hoping Biden would've been more strongly considered for president. Speaking relatively of course, he was one the ones I liked. So seeing him selected as VP, though probably inconsequential, is nice.

I'm starting to worry though. Leading up to the last two elections I felt the Dems would win beyond all doubt, and somehow they'd lose. I feel that way for this election too.

The person who is waiting for something to turn up might start with their shirt sleeves. - Garth Henrichs

By now it should be fairly obvious. The hands that controlling the threads of the puppets will decide on the president. Even if people bitch about it after two months they will just go back to there life of debts and problems. People need to really stop every thing and come out on to street and then see how fast GOVT can be change that works for the people.

The problem isn't the bitching, everyone is bitching, but some are able to bitch about it louder than the others. Those are the ones that are going to get their way and win but the bitching will still continue until the other side finally gets loud enough.

If it doesn't happen this year then it will definitely happen in 2012.

Word, Biden was my favorite in the early debates, I'm glad that he's on the ticket. Plus, this gives me more ammo when speaking to my mom about voting Dem since he's crazy pro-teachers.

As per the last two elections I had hope in 2004 but knew the chances weren't very good due to the stay the course mentality people had at the time. As per 2000 it was really a coinflip in my mind, I was still slightly brainwashed by my parents to lean more Repub than Dem but imo it really was an inconsequential election considering how good the economy was after Clinton. (But how the last 8 years have shown me I was wrong.)

The more I read into Obama's agenda and past it just cracks me up that he has fervent supporters. I just recently found out about his sponsorship of the global poverty act of 2007. Each person gets a global tax regulated by the UN of ~$2k per year AND light arms get banned. What a fucking joke.

Hey look, SoulAssassin propagating false rumors.

Quote:
A number of news outlets have referred to this bill as the "Global Poverty Tax." In February 2008, Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media wrote that the Global Poverty Act (S.2433) "would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid ... which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 Billion over and above what the U.S. already spends" to reduce global poverty.[1] Other outlets ran similar stories, including WorldNetDaily[2], which cites Kincaid as a source. This, however, is false. The bill requires the president to develop a plan to implement the Millennium Development Goal of reducing the amount of people who live on less than a dollar a day. The bill makes no policy statement regarding the implementation of other Millennium Development Goals and no mention of how the bill would be funded.[3]

Kinda hard for Obama to preach "change" in his campaign with a veteran 30+ year Washington insider on the ticket, isn't it? I mean hell, Biden has been in the senate even longer than McCain!

And I don't think people were necessarily thinking "Stay the course..." in the 2004, it was mostly "John Kerry is a giant douche..." To have lost in 2004, and for things to be so close now in 2008, I'd say things aren't looking great for the Democratic party.

Me personally, I'd be OK with Obama/Biden in the Whitehouse. Depending on who McCain chooses for his running mate it could be difficult for them to pull off though.

With no hands!

SO where's this expected $845 billion going to come from again? Ohhhhh from our pockets; roughly 2k a person if the 845 number sticks. With the UN regulating it no less.

Can't wait for another payroll deduction coming.

Thats the biggest problem with people. They have gotten soo hyper conscious about every thing. That things that are in front of them Pure Black and White they just throw it in the bucket of conspiracy. If you want to know the truth put aside your prejudices and just look at the facts. The whole Bush election should be the perfect example.

As for Biden i don't think he is the right choice for VP. For reason that are related to military affairs. But it made sense considering alot of people said Obama dont have enough experience. Choosing Biden was a good choice from that prospect.

I love Republican logic. The Senate calls out the Bush Administration to get them to honor their pledges.

[Struck out->]Bush stated[<-Struck out] Bush participated in the International Conference on Finance for Development and endorsed the Monterey Consensus, stating: `We fight against poverty because hope is an answer to terror. We fight against poverty because opportunity is a fundamental right to human dignity. We fight against poverty because faith requires it and conscience demands it. We fight against poverty with a growing conviction that major progress is within our reach.'.

(6) The 2002 National Security Strategy of the United States notes: `[A] world where some live in comfort and plenty, while half of the human race lives on less than $2 per day, is neither just nor stable. Including all of the world's poor in an expanding circle of development and opportunity is a moral imperative and one of the top priorities of U.S. international policy.'.

(7) The 2006 National Security Strategy of the United States notes: `America's national interests and moral values drive us in the same direction: to assist the world's poor citizens and least developed nations and help integrate them into the global economy.'.

( The bipartisan Final Report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States released in 2004 recommends: `A comprehensive United States strategy to counter terrorism should include economic policies that encourage development, more open societies, and opportunities for people to improve the lives of their families and enhance prospects for their children.'.

(9) At the summit of the Group of Eight (G- nations in July 2005, leaders from all eight participating countries committed to increase aid to Africa from the current $25,000,000,000 annually to $50,000,000,000 by 2010, and to cancel 100 percent of the debt obligations owed to the World Bank, African Development Bank, and International Monetary Fund by 18 of the world's poorest nations.

Yes but there's two factors here working. First, if he had been farther ahead he likely would have grabbed someone less known to push the change platform but as it stands he can't take the risk. Second, Biden brings with him Foreign Relation credentials in the form of being part of and leading the Foreign Relations Committee since 2001. This helps negate the "he lacks foreign relations creds" argument against the Obama camp.

John "Waffles" Kerry does indeed have the reputation of being a douche and I won't argue that he isn't. However, there was a widespread voice for change from the "W" administration that was close to being victorious but I feel it was overcome with a stay the course in the War on Terror (tm) and the thinking that a known evil is better than an unknown evil.

In your mind you are adamant of your way of thinking, without giving a single thought of things that exist but you cant conceptualize them. So it seem to you its conspiracy or paranoia. Also be respectful or it just shows that you are very poor in carrying a respectful conversation about a topic.

Also the only difference between reality, and what is consider some thing is conspiracy/paranoia. If reality is at a level of 50 the paranoia and conspiracy make it seem its at a level of 90.

Try to read news paper that are from diff part of world. Like India, Pakistan, Arabic nations, Europe then may be you can see how things are. From there draw your own conclusions. I have literally seen whole ballot boxes get change during election time in various country. The only diff is in those part of world they use Weapons and in US, Govt is just very good in creating smoke screen and manipulation.

I agree with ya except the VP choice. While it might make sense for Obama I find it hilarious that he selected the same guy that stated that Obama shouldn't be the Prez due to experience and that it'd be an honor to run with/against McCain.

Ha! Yeah, I find it funny that Biden recently said Obama wasn't ready to be president and is now on the ticket with him. I'd rather be voting for Biden frankly, but given the amount of racism out there he could easily end up being president before it's over. I bet as soon as Obama won the Democratic nomination the secret service guys said "Fuck!"

Only one thing to say about any and all politians, and governments in general: (the golden rule) "He who has the gold, makes the rules". Nothing the public does or bitches about will ever change unless the "he who has the gold" wants it to change. Even then, the only changes will benefit the "he who has the gold" more than anyone else. World politics is just a front.

Say goodbye to our beloved planet. Because there is
alot more money to be made in emitting greenhouse
gasses, than curtailing emissions.

Get out of the box, then recycle it.
