Ah yesss, the famed pinewood derby, mine always looked nicer, but there was always some faster. Learned how to whittle that way.....and how to sharpen my cubscout knife too.

That was a good movie. Didn't think I'd like a sissy movie like that, but it was good.

I would of won the pine wood derby had my uncle not oiled my wheels like an asshole making me look like a cheater in front of my entire troop

All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can.

slight update. This is the altimeter. I still have to mount the radio tracker to that board as well as a battery. I am hoping to launch it on feb 16/17.

A little more. I should have my tracker here by the end of the week so I can get the electronics bay finished and start testing.

Very cool, I'd love to shoot off a few rockets again, but not for $500

What kind of a launch site do you have for this bad boy?

Google Maps

It is nothing more then a huge sod and sugar cane farm.

Look around here and you can see some pictures of the larger rockets and the launch site. I also forgot part of this project.... I have to build a launch tower. This does not have a launch lug for the rod (too much drag), so I have to build my own tower. I should not be terribly hard, I just need to come up with a good way.

I remember building an Estes rocket many years ago with clear payload and we decided to put a small frog in it. We didn't have any fancy electronics and didn't measure the frog's biometrics during flight, but when we retrieved it, it was pretty clear frogs aren't designed for rocket travel. Cool project, but be careful and of course make a video.

2nd place in the George Rodgers Clark Elementary Scout Troop Pinewood Derby of 1972

It made its maiden flight on saturday. Not much to update really. It was a perfect flight, only damage is some burnt paint on the fins and airframe. I did not launch it on the big motor (I600) because the electronics were held in mostly with masking tape, so I launched it on an H123. Even with that little motor (not even 1/2 as long as the I600), it still made it to 4701'. I can't wait to get everything finished up and hopefully join the 2 mile club.

Here it is sitting on the launch pad. I borrowed some one elses tower launcher, which was really too small for the rocket. I was afraid the rocket was going to fall over and go shooting horizontal because it wobbled so much.

Here is a pretty bad video of it. It was way quicker with that little motor then we anticipated.

I can't wait to see the big motor. If the small one gets up to 4701 feet, what's the big one going to get?

Been a while, Saturday its going up on the I600. Here is what I came up with for the Ebay. I still need to get a holder for the 6 357/SR44 batteries which will go right below the altimeter and make something to hold the tracker battery in. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up the tower launcher I built for a school project tomorrow.
