im getting a hdtv and sound system in the next few weeks or so, wanted to share with you guys what i had in mind.

HDTV:

Samsung 56-in HLP5663W DLP

features:
hdmi
dvi
vga

Sound system:
Onkyo HT-S780 7.1 Audio

features:
1000watt total system power
7x 110watt
230watt 10" sub
3 optical and 1 coaxial input
3 componient inputs
rated really high on sound output because its a home theater in a box that actually has decent speakers with tweeters and such.

getting a 16' dvi cable that goes from my tv to the computer
also upgrading the speaker cable on the home theater system to 12gauge wire.

now i just need to find a super ass cheap tv stand. i have seen some decent ones for $200 but thats just too much money for a fucking tv stand. someone find me a ugly ass tv stand thats cheap as fuck.

My 42" Rear-Projection Wide Screen Samsung was good for exactly one year and a month. After that month, the blue gun developed burn-in, and all Samsung could say was that it's expected to have to do repairs on a tv after warranty is up.

I think you will be very happy with a setup like that. Of course I'd upgrade the sound, but in terms of home theater in a box systems, that is one of the best, and the price is great.

ya, you really cant beat the price. its $500 with no tax and free shipping. it weighs like 150pounds and i have a $50 coupon so its $450 flat. i think i might upgrade the rca sub cable too, dont know if that maters much or not.

I'll wait until the 2009 analog switch-off before jumpin' on the HDTV bandwagon. There are a few things I'm worried about. First and foremost, I wanna see if Hollywood's lobbying of Washington into passing legislation to have the FCC mandate the inclusion of content restriction mechanisms on every HDTV set will be successful and, if so, what the consequences will be. Second, I wanna see the issues of HDMI and HDCP sorted out--I don't wanna spend thousands on equipment that'll soon be obsolete. Last, I hope that we'll be able to record not only over-the-air signals, but also cable signals without using a set-top box, directly into our PCs using a tuner card, much like we do now with analog TV/cable, although that's just wishful thinking on my part....
