yeah my fam's not really doing a big christmas this year, so probably not. but all the music is on my comp anyway, so i'm not missing out on that.

and its total bs that it died... its a 5th gen video that i've had for about a year and a half.

How did it die? No boot? You might try the Apple store to see if they have any suggestions. A friend did that and they offered her money off a new one.

I took it to the apple store and they suggested I recycle my broken one and get 10% off a new one.

I've been doing some googling and have found some interesting fix ideas that have worked in the past, so i'll let you know if anything miraculously works.

Ok, to be fair Apple say's they're supposed to last 3-5 years. (Which funny enough is the predicted lifespan of most hard drives, though this is getting far better.) But if you want the shiny new toys, you'll have to buy one at least once a year according to Jobs.

And buy an mp3 player? You should make one!

if it makes you feel any better my battery died in about a year, I paid $150 after shipping to get a new refurbished one, it died after 92 days(came with a 90 day warranty) and when I called apple for help the tech told me to go out a buy a new one.

I am sooo never owning another apple product again.

That sucks, but you have to admit they make the best. I guess I've just been lucky, buy I've never had a failure. 2 iPods and a Macbook, 5 years, no failures.

thats the "warranty" they offered me. I called and said that it had died after a year's and a couple weeks normal use and wanted to know what could be done, they asked me to send it in at my cost to inspect it and see what was up and that they would let me know what cold be done. they emailed me back saying the battery was dead and that they would send me a "new" refurbished Ipod. for $100 plus shipping. I was pissed at that allready but figured I needed a good MP3 player anyways and cut my losses and did it.

Had it for 92 days, its hard drived died.. harshly, I could hear it making funky noises the last last couple days, so I called them again. They basically said "sorry, we don't do anything with refurbished products after their warranty, But hey, if you buy a new one and that breaks, we will give you another refurbished one." Sweet!
