Here is a place to recommend music. Please don't post Metallica or G-Unit or other popular or established bands. This is a thread to find new music! Please give out styles or a idea what they sound like. Just post some music you have discovered so people could check it out.

A Whisper in the Noise

- A orchestra with the size of a band. Amazing sound.

God is a Astronaut

- Instrumental band with similar to Explosions in the sky

Hammock

- Instrumental band as well.

Animal Collective

- Trippy indie style music.

These Arms are Snakes

- A weird band but really cool to listen to.

Ok, bear with me on this. Band names are in bold and albums I'd recommend for download/purchase are in italic. Keep in mind several things:
  • I've been a musician since I was 8 years old (first piano, then guitar)
  • I hate heavy metal and emo. There's just no point to it. You can shred, you can whine... big deal.
  • I'm a live music trader with a huge passion for music
Ok, let's go.

Butthole Surfers - Psychedelic rock and overall quirkiness that lead to the 90's grunge rock movement. Independant Worm Saloon

Sonic Youth - Alternative group that originated in the early 80's that specialized in using strange tunings and tools on thier guitars. A little avant-garde, a little noise rock, you won't like all of it (even I don't), but there's something for everyone. Daydream Nation

Dinosaur Jr. - A not so well-known rock group from the late 80's/early 90's with a very distinct sound. The lead singer's voice kind of sounds like a young Neil Young. Bug

Local H - I'm sure that a bunch of you have heard of Local H already, but if you haven't, here's some info: They totally emulate the 90's rock sound (not in a Bush/Nickelback/Creed kind of way) with only 2 members. I highly recommend these guys. As Good As Dead

Mudhoney - One of the pioneers of the 90's grunge movement, Mudhoney has a real 'stoner rock' sound. Superfuzz Bigmuff + Early Singles or the self-titled.

Wipers - Definitely one of the most original bands I've ever heard. The singer/guitarist Greg Sage grew up cutting vinyls at home and building tube amps. Typical punk anti-rockstar additude, who wrote music that actually had a point. It's perfect music for a rainy day, or perfect music to kill yourself to. Is This Real? or the 3 disc box set if possible.

I'd also recommend a few other 80's punk bands. Just try and find various songs on P2P: Flipper, Scratch Acid..[/list][/i]

BTW, Archive.org is a GREAT place to find free live music.

Butthole Surfers and Local H up for free download, not to mention a whole shitload of Grateful Dead shows. These shows come in lossless and lossy formats.

Oh, and check out the Meat Puppets if you can! They kind of sound like alternative rock mixed with southern rock.

Sleeping music. The name's very unfitting, except for the electric part, lol. You expect a little bit of agression out of them. It'd make a decent punk band name =x Plus it's just one guy; I think using his name would have been good enough.

agreed. and Eddie Spaghetti's self-named stuff is pretty good too.

lessee:

Against Me! - As the Eternal Cowboy, Searching for a Former Clarity, Acoustic EP {{{good ol' punk-rock. not gutter-punk thrash shitty music. More like a more intense ramones. And with much better lyrics. This band puts so much emotion into their music, it's hard to not like. (then again i remember when id idn't like them [had to hear 'em a few times])}}} Select songs to get: Pints of Guiness Make you Strong, How Low, Baby I'm an Anarchist, You Look Like I Need a Drink, From Her Lips to God's Ears (The Energizer)

Idiot Pilot - Strange We Should Meet Here(only album i know of) {{{interesting two piece band mixing guitar,w pretty/ugly vocals, and electronic}}} Selected songs: Day in the Life of a Pool Shark, Violent Tango

Zolof the Rock&Roll Destroyer {{{very happy, indie-pop band. female vocalist with such a cute voice I can't help but love her. Kinda electronic(synth?)}}} Selected songs: Arghh I'm a Pirate

everyone has probably heard of my recomendations, because i'm not so underground.

I've seen Local H live and they are great. Bound for the Floor is a classic song. Really good for just 2 guys.

Shut your mouth and think it out.

Death From Above 1979 is a great 2 piece band. Consists of a Drummer that sings and a Bassist that use distortion. He also uses a synth. Its really good. I would call it Dance Punk or something like that.

They're kind of techno-ish, quite weird for sure.
