So Friday we are going to christen my friends new home theater system by having a movie night with 10-15 people, and I'm in charge of finding movies to watch. I've decided that you are going to help me. Anything will do but I want to stay away from the gung-ho action movies or too many comedies. No chick flicks please.

Hostel
A Bronx Tale
Lady In White

All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can.

Pulp Fiction would be great, I agree.

I would also suggest:

Kill Bill
Catch me if you Can

Master of the lightnings, rider on the storm,
wearer of a crown of swords, spinnerout of fate.
Who thinks he turns the Wheel of Time,
may learn the truth too late.

I'll never be too old to tweak.

I agree with Men in Tights for a comedy and Batman Begins for an Action movie. I've traditionally tested my HT systems with The Matrix (the first one, mind you), but you could go with Reloaded for more sound/graphic effects.
Check Garden State out for a semi chick/emo section (although is neither of those actually), and "Nueve Reinas" (or Nine Queens in English) if you can find it or Confidence, it's American remake for good semi comedy/suspence thriller. Both are quite good but I like the original better, specially since it's Argentinean, just like me .

Finder's Fee.

Really good. And you can probably count on the fact nobody has seen it yet, which is important.

Date Movie.

Funniest movie I've seen.

That leaves me out.....I was going to suggest 'Behind Enemy Lines'

I don't watch much more than sci-fi, action, or comedy. Not much else tends to hold my attention.

I wouldn't call Requiem a mindfuck, Requiem is just disturbing.

Donnie Darko is a mindfuck.

I think it's important to know if this is going to be the kind of gathering where everyone is taking the movie's seriously or if it's more of a walk around and socialize while the movie is playing.

If it's more of a serious thing, then some films like:

21 grams, Saving Private Ryan, Fargo, Trainspotting, or Being John Malkovich, A Clockwork Orange, or Full Metal Jacket.

But if it's more of a leisurely thing, stick with stuff that people can walk in and out of like:

The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Terminator 2, or Arachnophobia.
