NEW DELHI, India (Reuters) -- A Muslim couple in India have been told by local Islamic leaders they must separate after the husband "divorced" his wife in his sleep, the Press Trust of India reported.

I'm always amazed how many different interpretations of religious "laws" people manage to come up with. The two viewpoints in the story there are directly opposed; either you can divorce your wife while asleep or you can't. How hard can it be to go and check whatever bookful of crap they came out of and decide who is right?

"The law clearly says any action under compulsion or in a state of intoxication has no effect. The case of someone uttering something while asleep falls under this category and will have no impact whatsoever," Khan told Reuters.

That's what I was talking about. The local clerics say they have to get divorced, this guy says they don't. Same thing with suicide bombers - paradise with however many virgins etc, or packed off to the Muslim version of hell depending on who you ask. I guess this is what happens when you try to make a legal system based on a religious text, with all the contradictions and inconsistencies you generally find in them.

If Islam would embrace the seperation of church and state things would immediately be better.

This is very true. Do you think, however, that we are heading in the opposite direction?

Shut your mouth and think it out.

Makes me wonder about the level of inteligence contained within the religeon.....or is that the point of the article? To slant opinion against Islam?

Until now, never!before in Earth history, has mass extinction involved a choice.

It's not just Islam. I was just reading yesterday that the guy who started the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster website had to move because Christians were giving him death threats. I think as a species we are doomed...

Yep, check out this site: http://www.infidels.org/library/mode...istencies.html

For example:

Quote:
GE 1:3-5 On the first day, God created light, then separated light and darkness.
GE 1:14-19 The sun (which separates night and day) wasn't created until the fourth day.

GE 1:11-12, 26-27 Trees were created before man was created.
GE 2:4-9 Man was created before trees were created.

GE 1:20-21, 26-27 Birds were created before man was created.
GE 2:7, 19 Man was created before birds were created.

GE 1:24-27 Animals were created before man was created.
GE 2:7, 19 Man was created before animals were created.

GE 1:26-27 Man and woman were created at the same time.
GE 2:7, 21-22 Man was created first, woman sometime later.

Hah, nice link. So many of those aren't even inconsistencies, they're outright contradictions (eg one passage says "x happened" and the other says "x didn't happen"). And people live their lives based on what this book says?

Hmm, isn't Christianity a supposedly peaceful religion, "thou shalt not kill" and all that? How very odd

No doubt about it if we continue on like this. Just a matter of time.
