| Party? Where? | Does anyone want to give me a description of what oatmeal is supposed to look like? I have a box of 'apple' flavored packets but every time I mix it up it looks like a bowl of white runny snot. I can't get over the texture and it turns me away from it even though it tastes alright. The problem is that I have NO measuring cups in the house at all, nothing, it says mix in a cup of milk and microwave for a couple minutes.. Am I adding too much milk? This is what this forum is all about. |

| My E-Penis Is HUGE | Dude go to some cheap ass dollar store or whatever discount store you have in Canada and buy some fucking measuring cups. Your adding too much milk. |
| All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can. | |

| outside the box! | Yup, too much moo-juice. Could just be the brand of oatmeal too. For me, snot consistency combined with the morning breakfast ritual.....ain't going to happen. |

| Jolly Bolly Fo-Folly | I have the measurements of liquid to oatmeal hardwired, and to be honest I can eye it every time to get the perfect oatmeal. I prefer mine to be firm, at which point I put in flavoring or sugar and milk to cool. Some people like runny snot. |

| From Utah, NOT mormon | Put enough milk in the oatmeal to make it a little runny when you stir it together. Not all snotty, just a little runny. After you microwave it, it will be alot firmer, and you can then add a little bit more milk to make it a consistency you prefer. |

| Curmudgeon | I cook my oatmeal with water. You don't need to measure. Roughly 1 part oats 2 parts water. Add milk and brown sugar after it's cooked. That's oatmeal done right. Milk does a shit job of cooking oatmeal imo, and it takes longer for some reason too. |

| Chief Webologist | If you don't have the necessary equipment to cook instant oatmeal in a microwave, it's time to go shopping. Don't the directions call for water instead of milk? Milk is nasty enough for human consumption.. I can't imagine what that crap tastes like after being microwaved. |

| Tweak Minion | haha this is a funny thread. i've never tried oatmeal with water. I should try that sometime. I rarely have oatmeal as I'm allergic to oatmeal and dairy (and pretty much everything else for that matter...). |

| Tweak Minion | I like the taste of milk when it's fresh. it does make me sick though. I don't have it very often. I agree, it's odd that we as humans are drinking cow milk. No wonder most people have problems with it! |

| Globe Trekker | I've been drinking soy milk so long that cow milk now tastes like shit to me. And the concept of where it comes from is thoroughly creepy. Doesn't stop me from eating cheese though. |

| Apple Oatmeal always seems to take less liquid than other oatmeals like my favorite, maple brown-sugar. (To which I add a teaspoon of peanut-butter, a tsp of sugar, and a dollup of milk) Also, it seems to take longer to set up, due to the slow re-hydration of the apple bits. When your oatmeal looks like runny snot, just stick it in the microwave (in a large enough bowl to prevent boil-over), and heat it for three minutes or until it's about to boil over. Repeat till you have something less than runny. Last edited by Goofus Maximus; 11-27-2007 at 04:22 PM.. |

| outside the box! | I love oatmeal, but not so much the instant packaged kind. I used to put butter and brown sugar on it, and maybe some raisins if there were any around. |

| Globe Trekker | Oatmeal is great, and great for you. Barring something radical like spending the 99 cents to get a measuring cup, just experiment with less and less milk / water until you get it to the consistency you like. Or you can cook it longer. The more the heat the more evaporation... |
