How about Jackson Browne - Running on Emtpy. Maybe not quite right.

It's a great live album anyhow.

For a deep down, excellent voice (also a great floutist) listen to some of the songs by Moody Blues that are sung by Ray Thomas. saw them live and when this man sings, it'll bring a tear to your eyes. True Celtic blood.

One of the lowest good sounding voices I can think of, not neccessarily 'folk' music, but good deep voice, is Lou Rawls.

right now hank williams is doin pretty good...never really listened to him much before, he's a bit higher than I am lookin for, but he's def. got the sound.

I fear I am going to venture into the realms of country to find what im lookin for

Back in the 80's (if you don't mind 'ballads' as opposed to 'folk')there was a guy named David Drew that did a helluva good rendition of Sugarloaf's 'Green Eyed Lady' that was good. Then there were the immortals like Lauren Green (yes, the Lauren Green of Bonanza fame) that did ballads with a narative quality like Johnny Cash. Deep baritone vocals seem to have become a lost art, what with all the screamo and radical lyrics of the past 5 decades.

I know and its such a shame too, usually I have to dig through tons of crap before i can find anything I like to sing along with. Its tough bein a bass with a choir background, lookin for somethin good to chill too and sing along with

Check out Whitaker's "Last Farewell"....it'll have you humming it and singing it from now 'till the day you die. Awesome song for an old guy. I love a good baritone voice and it sux that there are so few.

i found a good way to find better music,

check out pandora.com I know it's been posted here before, but it really is a good tool. I typed in johnny cash, and there are some good songs playin, but for the most part its just folk music.
