I left my cell phone at work today (fell out of my pocket on the sub), leaving me no communication with anyone else other than internet. My wife then got off of work at 5:30pm, and hadn't returned home by even 6:40pm. I got extremely worried, as I had no communication to know if she was alright and just went out after work, or if she had something happen to her. She has had problems lately (her period has been sporadic as hell). In fact, she just got off last Tuesday after being on for a week and a half, then went back on last night). I had no communication with her, and she had no way to contact me. So, I decided to get some sort of a phone service. In the base housing, we have phone lines, but they are expensive as hell. I have looked at the alternative, internet phone service. Vonage seems to be a good candidate, and many of my neighbors have it. The link to their latest deal is as follows:

http://www.vonage.com/products_premium.php

I haven't heard of anyone else offering anything this cheap, but what do you guys think? I need something. Just so no matter what, I have some sort of communication with those outside of my home (other than through internet). Do any of you know of another decent internet phone service?

as a short term solution, can you IM her through AIM/MSN to her phone? I know I can IM my brother's cell phone.

You can even go on cingular.com and txt message someone through the internet (of course, if you're a cingular customer).

I have no experience with internet phones, sorry.

I had looked into skype, but decided against it. I don't want to mess with the computer every time I want to make a phone call. I also want to have a cordless telephone. I don't have any problems with bandwidth, as I don''t download much (anymore). I'm going to take a look around and see what's available before I make any decision. Thanks for the help, though!

Check out Sun Rocket. ... They're a little cheaper than vonage, and seems that you'll be using this primarly as a backup in case you cant use your cell phone for whatever reason, so I think itd be perfect.
