I liked the Gene Wilder version a lot, but the singing and dancing got a little hard to take after a while. I went into the Depp version expecting not to like it based on the previews and trailers I had seen but was pleasantly surprised.

One thing is for sure, Depp didn't seem like any character he had ever played before. It's amazing to me that the actor who played Wonka was the same that played Captain Jack and Ed Wood and Hunter S. Thompson and Sands... He's a versatile motherfucker.

Depp is my fav actor. Not only can he play lots of different types of characters, he can pull them off COMPLETELY and make you forget who Jonny depp is for the span of the movie. You can get lost in his acting, and focus on the character, instead of focusing on the actor.

Gene Wilder did the best job, the movie is how it is because he was in it. He thought of a lot of the stuff he did. That man is a GREAT actor.

Yeah. Wonka was supposed to be crazy(wilder), not mentally challenged(depp). At the end of the original it showed that Wonka was somewhat intelligent he just liked to fuck around, in the remake wonka seems liek a special ed kid.

No one, he lived in Hunters basement and did drugs with him to prepare for that role, or so I read somewhere. I believe it, they are both crazy.
