How to track a laptop? Freind's laptop got stolen..

Its a mac, and i dont know shit about macs..
So i figured somebody here might know..

He says it has wifi and his messenger comes on when the computer boots up.
If the laptop gets connected to the internet can you trace where it is in anyway?

What options does this guy have besides going to every pawn shop?
SOL?

I know theres software out there call lojack for PCs but that has to be installed on the client pc before it gets stolen.

The guy's probably fucked IDB. Pawnshops are full of stolen shit. Did he put any personal identifying marks on it...DL#, partial SS#, name, etc?

He should contact the police with the serial number. If there's a way to track it they will know. But I think he's probably fucked.
