How come whenever I right click on the hyperlink for a Google search result the webpage changes the link to a Google referrer? Now whenever I try to rightclick->save a PDF from Google they are always renamed "url.pdf." And now I am finding shit on the web that requires a Google video viewer to view. I am not going to be forced to install anybody else's shitty software to watch some old maid's cat bounce off a wall or some hillbilly swinging an alligator at his trailer park girlfriend.

Am I the last person still using Google? What is everybody using now?

alltheweb is pretty damm good, but google is still one of the best engines.

I don't see what the big deal is. When you right click to save a pdf and it comes up url.pdf, select the url part and type in whatever you want the file to be called and hit save. It's not that difficult.

The google video player(it's actually a modded version of VLC) deal is kinda gay, but the concept of google video isn't. Free, permanent hosting(and access for all) for video files sounds good to me.

Google does have some nice features but when I just need info or sites without the BS I use http://www.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/scraper.htm

Same search engine just without the BS.

It's a huge problem if you have to download 50 or so government and technical PDFs over the course of an hour looking for information and references. Of course, that's merely the PDF problem, not the only issue.

an excellent solution to that would be to use the Magpie extension for firefox. Load up a bunch of PDFs in tabs and hit CTRL+SHIFT+S and they'll all save to the same folder with their original filenames.
