| Hood Rich | Does anybody know anything about renting cars in Amsterdam? Specifically cars that you can drive from Amsterdam to Germany? What do you all need for the car, and for driving between countries in Europe? About how much would car rental run? Planning to do this next spring, if that makes a difference. I've decided that this country sucks (*waits for everybody to say 'if you don't like it, leave') and I need to get out. I plan on going with 2 or 3 friends; also any other advice would be helpful. |

| outside the box! | I think this country suxs too, but I believe I'll just see what I personally can do to change it. "first, you cut a hole in a box" |
![]() Say goodbye to our beloved planet. Because there is alot more money to be made in emitting greenhouse gasses, than curtailing emissions. Get out of the box, then recycle it. | |

| I believe you need an international license. Also as far as rental cars goes i don't think you can drop off in another country. You would have to verify it with the agency. As far as price i think you would be looking at about 200 euros a week at least. Some basic Google searching would get you a ball park on most of your questions I'm just speculating. ps: when i go on my Euro trip I'm planning to take the train i wont even bother with driving in major cities in Europe. From my experience a car in a major city in Europe is terrible. |

| Tweak Minion | You don't need a car in Amsterdam. There are trams and trains everywhere. You can walk from one side of the city to the other in a little over an hour. A train from Amsterdam into Germany would probably run you about $35 euros or so I imagine. The autobahn would be sweet to drive on, though. |

| Member | I can tell you from personal expeiernece that trains are the way to go much cheaper. do you really want to pay $9 plus a gallon? yeah no fun. trains are really fast in europe, the ICE trains in Germany average about 170mph and can peak at over 200. Just not worth it and as was said before, I don"t think you can return a car inbetween countries like that. I can say though that your US licesnse will work just fine. An international Drivers Licesnse is just a translation that you carry with your US ID so the Authorities can verify your info if need be without holding your for someone who does read english. |

| One of MSP's Sneaky Brits | Oh come on you guys. Let Nidex have the experience of road rage in different languages and gain the benefit of international sign language! My top 3 suggestions are Paris, London and Milan. I've got a friend who gets a nervous twitch every time you mention driving in Milan to her! London is full of one way streets that seem to change every couple of months and Paris is full of drivers with no fear! Maybe a few training sessions in New York might help! |

| Hood Rich | If the train is the way to go I'll do that, sounds a lot less painless than the whole renting a car deal. And I sit in this: ![]() 4 days out of the week, I'm no stranger to alot of traffic. |

| con de | I drove in Germany for a month only because the government gave me a free rental. It wasn't too bad just keep to the far side of the road as faster cars having the right of way is the law there not just a logical suggestion. You can get an international drivers license at any travel agent as long as you have a valid license. Outside of government travel I would be concerned with having an accident. I was under a "status of forces agreement" which usually means you get deported at midnight on a military bird except for outrageous crimes like rape and murder. If you have an accident and seriously injure or kill someone you might be in big big trouble. With that said, you can travel all of Europe on rail as everyone has said before, I would do that. |
