| | Giving in my 2 weeks tomorrow... | permalink #1 |
| Paw? | Leaving the big, bad Alienware tomorrow. I already have my resignation letter printed out. I'm looking to speak to my manager in the morning shortly after the day starts to talk to him and let him know, then I'll give him the letter for written confirmation. I'll be honest, I'm doing this for a lot of reasons. The biggest reason is school. I need to focus more time on it and a full-time job doesn't play nicely. I've tried fumbling school and work but it's a hassle for me. So I'm taking a step back (and a paycut!) to focus on school. Aside from school, however, the company is changing in ways that I'm not so thrilled about. One of my favorite co-workers has left the department and too many changes are being made within our operations all at once. And aside from THAT, I feel like the grunt of the department whos job is becoming redundant. I've been with the company for over three years and I don't see myself moving up. I'm only 23 and I'm a working stiff in cubicle land....Not really where I want to be right now. The pay is good for now, but with no outlook of moving up, it'll be good for only a little while. So after all of this, I'm going part-time....probably retail. Hoping I can nab a computer related job like geek squad or any other major chain repair. I think I have enough experience built up over 3 years to find something decent while going to school. Wish me luck, guys! | |

| Dont mess with old school | Ali can you hook me up at frys? I wish you all the best but I hope you have a clear focus and a clear path of what you want to do and where when you finish school. I've seen so many people quit their job to focus on school only to come back to their old jobs doing the same thing and not taking advantage of their degrees. | |

| outside the box! | If I had to work on computers, it'd not be fun anymore. As long as I can treat it as a lucrative hobby, all is right with the world. Two weeks ago, my "hobby" brought in over 500 bux. | |

| King of the Wicker People | I hear ya, Bear. I wish I could focus more on school and stuff, but with a family to support, I need cash, and my current job pays me well, even though redundancy is sometimes annoying (go to site, install hardware/software, train staff, fix issues that arise, chill for the rest of the week, repeat next week). Wiskas, I totally understand that too. I now do computers on the side once in awhile. It's somewhat lucrative. Few hundred extra dollars a month goes a long way. | |

Find a list of companies that have locations near you and contact their HR department directly. Thats the best way to find a good job. It takes legwork, but finding a "good" job takes work and research.

| Globe Trekker | Recruiters / head hunters were awesome back in 1999-2000 when the market was hot and we were in demand. Now it's all temp / contract type stuff that generally doesn't pay shit. | |

| Tweak Minion | I signed up with a recruiter that does perm placements in IT and Admin. A good friend of mine i actually trained at enterprise is doing the recruiting so I'm pretty sure i wont get taken advantage to much. From what i here candidates are hard to find now because unemployment is low.. unless that was bullshit i was fed during an it recruiter interview i went on. | |

| Banned | It's a permenant replacement until the company finds a full-time employee and ends it's contract with the recruiting firm. Been there done that a couple of times. I suggest you don't sit back and wait for a recruiter to find you a good job, because all the good jobs get taken by people who show initiative and attempt to contact the people who are really offering out the jobs, which would be HR and the companies themselves. | |

| Paw? | Well, I did it. He was very understanding of my position. He offered to check and see if our kiosk store in the local mall had any openings that fit my school schedule. I asked if he could get me some information and I'll definitely consider it. So it looks like I'm outta there by the 15th or 16th, this month. | |

| Globe Trekker | That's nice that he offered to work with you. I would think Kiosk work in the mall would be OK, but you'll have to deal with a lot of dumb window shoppers. "What does this button here do?" "Are you from the internet?" ![]() | |

| King of the Wicker People | At least they're willing to work with you. My old job, if I needed a little help with something, the owner of the store wouldn't budge an inch (most of the time), and I was a valuable asset to the company. You would think that they would want to keep me happy? With my current job, if I need a day off, no problem. If I need an hour off, no problem. Need someone to take pager for a little bit, not a big deal. And they want to keep me happy. | |

i bust my ass at my job more than all the high/drunk people that work at mine. But I don't get any recognition or raises or anything. I'm constantly disrespected but not much I can do about it. Like I said before, I've been at my job for over 2.5 years and I could sleep through it...i'm not challenged in the slightest. My degree gets me shit as well in my area. Eventually, I'll go back and get another degree so I'll have dual degrees. Hopefully that'll help. I'm also looking to move out of this area in the next few years so I'm sure that will help as well. That's cool, Bear, that your boss was nice about it like that. Sounds like you will get a good gig soon. Good luck.
