what do you guys think 1mbps up/down fiber for 37.50 or 1.5mbps/128kbps for $40. The fiber can go up to 2mpbs at 47.50 and the cable can go up to 3.0 Mbps / 384 Kbps for 52.99. I'm thinking the fiber but im not sure how fast it will actually be, i know the cable would run about 300-500kbps actual but i've never delt with fiber before. What do you guys think?

cable only runs 300-500kbps? That seems really slow to me. Ive never tried fiber though. But my dsl downloads about 1300 kbps. And its only 22 a month or something.

I would pick the cheaper option, because my needs are modest.

Wow, My sister got fiber so she could do triple play. She pays like $40 for 15/*. I'm unsure of the up. Out here the fiber rocks, It's everywhere and it gets good pings and great speeds. My street is pretty much the only one in the whole town without fiber.

Those prices are horrible.

its the middle of washington state, im supprised theres even broadband out here. If you look on DSL reports theres not even any listed for my zip.

On the bright side people out here don't know how to secure their wireless networks.

when i say that for the speed of cable i mean the speeds that you actually get it at, not the advertised.

They advertise it as MBit, not MByte. 8 bits in a Byte. 1Mbit connection would get your around 125KB/s download rates. The 3mbit cable would be about 380KB/s. If you aren't getting the speed they advertised, you should call them up and demand credit for the bandwidth you aren't recieving. The contract you sign with them isn't ONLY to the ISP's advantage.

I'd go with the fiber, the latency on fiber is much much lower from what I've seen around me. The fiber on the east coast starts at 15mbit/2mbit@$38 and goes up to 30mbit/5mbit.

Bah! Go with cable, then. Fiber seems like too much of a hassle.

BTW, I got another free speed bump from InsightBB. I'm up to 5Mbps/1Mbps!
I always talk shit about InsightBB, but it looks like I'm going to have to eat my words with some hot sauce....

I'm with MSP, I've got sbc pro vs. the standard because my 1yr. std. contract expired and the price was going double to $35. They had another 1 yr contract for pro at 19.99. As I'm at the end of the loop my speed with pro does not double as advertised but maybe 25% faster. Can't wait to see what happens next year.

i got pro too, because my roommate is a dipshit and wanted internet "now" instead of waiting 3 days for them to come out and install fiber. I could be doing 15/5 right now... =(

haha thats some shitty fiber. there is probably a guy at the other end with an LED, blinking the packets for you.

I dont even know what my internet costs as I dont actually read the bills that get sent to my apartment, I just pay money through my bank every month and hope nothing gets cut off haha.

but I think my DSL is around $35-40/month for about 600KB/s down and about 90KB/s up (that's actual speeds, no kilobits)
