| Globe Trekker | I'm finishing up the director's cut right now, and man this movie is a mind fuck. The whole movie - is Franka real or is Donnie just crazy, who is this Sparrow "death lady" chick, who is Frank, etc. Man, I can't even recall the last time I watched a movie and was this far into it without having it all figured out. |

| jive turkey | frank is the kid he kills at the end. i still don't get the sparrow lady. and "real" is kind of subjective. its as real as you want it to be i guess. I got about 1/2 the movie. the best part is talking about the smurfs fucking. |

| Senior Member | **** SPOILERS **** Ok, this is basically what I've been able to gather about the movie through watching it several times (with commentary too), and looking at the website, etc. When Donnie wakes up on the golf course after the jet engine falls on his house he is in what is called a "tangent universe." When Frank says that the world will end in whatever days, he means that the tangent universe will collapse in theat many days. Through the influence of Gretchen and Frank (they are the instruments of a higher power, presumably God) Donnie will realizes that by him dying from the jet engine falling, he will make the lives of all the people around him better (his mom won't die, Frank won't die, Gretchen won't die, Swayze's character doesn't get discredited, Drew Barrymore's character doesn't get fired, etc.). Donnie is basically presented with a choice: go on living and the universe will be like this. Die and life will be better for everyone else. This is why Donnie repeats the line, "I promise one day everything will be better for you", to a number of people towards the end of the movie, and also why he is laughing right before he gets crushed to death. He is aware of what his decision means and he's happy about bettering all those people's lives. Roberta Sparrow has through some means realized that her purpose in life is to be at that exact spot by her mailbox to influence some course of events. These events being the killing of Gretchen and Frank. Basically that's what I got off the top of my head. Hopefully it helped... |

| My E-Penis Is HUGE | Frank is the devil, Donnie is Christ. The movie is compared to The Last Temptation Of Christ However the DC sucks and I would strongly suggest you see the original |
| All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can. | |

| Horrible Person | I've also heard that it's a remake of the Last Temptation of Christ, all that shit that would have happened if Donnie (christ) didn't die on that day, like he was supposed to. In reality I think it's just them being vague because anything vague can be overanalyzed until it's considered deep and genius. Good movie, tho. |

| Mega Busted | Meh. The movie was too gimmicky for me. I think it tried too hard to be deep. |

| gallagher is funny. | tremblay, What about Donnie's mom, and sister? The Engine comes off of their plane from the future. Their death is inescapable it would seem. |

This movie is great. But, I don't understand how Frank was that kid, what did that kid have anything to do about the movie? I don't get how he's dressed up as frank for halloween... Just a coincidence? I know they were the same person (because his eye was missing [that is where Donnie shot him at the end]) but why? | |
