I've been waiting for this moment! Apparently there is going to be a glut of LCD screens next year and prices are going to tank. Check it out:

BINGO! That's exactly what I was planning to do also - dual 19's. I figure next year I'll be able to accomplish that for less than 400 bucks.

I have a feeling that cable networks and satellite companies will purchase ownership of LCD companies to start packaging flat screen TVs and offer new HD packages and such. So in theory the cable/satellite companies would be the only people receiving the rockbotoom prices, and then once they've bought up everything, the only savings us consumers will get is if we play into their cable/satellite deals.

That's just theory though. And it's directly playing off the imminent switch from analog cable to digital. So I imagine with that upgrade, the cable companies will subsequently upgrade all over, and at the cost of government subsidiaries.

And I mention satellite because when has one company done something without its competitors following suit?

After writing this, it doesn't seem very plausible. But I still will say that something similar may happen, and it will cushion the drop in LCD prices jsut enough to get them to bounce back relatively quickly.

Though, this theory hardly applies to computer montiors.

Well, it never came to pass with the ram glut from a few years ago. Hopefully we'll get those cheap screens...

well the switch from analog to only digital isnt years away. I think they are passing that law in 2010 or somewhere down the line. But it was only a matter of time before the price of LCD monitors fell. Just look at dvd players now, i mean you can buy a dvd player for 25 dollars now a days. Its not the best in quality but 5 years ago they were all over 200 dollars.

Or maybe not. Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display (SED) is looking to be the new flat-panel display technology (see our previous coverage). It has pretty much all of the advantages of a CRT (high contrast, high refresh rates) and none of the downsides of LCDs (poor contrast, poor black levels, poor response times).
I think i'll wait.

I make myself laugh.
