OK, so my parents gave me the "title" to the car finally (grad gift) and the insurance is about to run out next Monday. What do I do now?? I am supposed to get my own insurance, no problem with that, but what do I do with this title?? Is there somewhere I have to go in order to get a new car tag instead of the one I've been using forever?? Is it the same place?? I am not very good at this.

Generally you have to go down to the DMV and get the title changed over to your name and thats about it. Let your insurance company know that you are the owner (after you get the new title) and the vehicle inspection tags/paperwork should be sent to you from now on.

On a side note I believe you can count any payments made during this process and your yearly tag payments off your taxes (at least you can in AZ).

Cool, I think I found on my county's website that they have a DMV "outlet" at some Kroger (food store like Publix) near my work. They are open 'til 6:30pm, so that should do it you think??

Drive it into your parents house and tell them to finish what they started. Then you will take care of it.

When you change the title, it'll also change the registration, you won't get new tags unless they're about to expire. The Oregon DMV has drive-up windows for doing this sort of thing,. Drive up, fill out the ap, away you go, inside of 5 minutes.

Until now, never!before in Earth history, has mass extinction involved a choice.

The reg and title fees are easy, taxes on that (an '85?) cheap, when you see the ins agent, DUCK. Ins on your own will be te expensive part. You won't get your parents' discount, safe driver, over 45, multi-vehicle on and on.. You can get discounts for a clean driving record, type of car, number of cylinders, If your still in school. Shop around before you buy. I'd be interested in knowing the difference in what you pay from your parents ins. to your own policy.

Got new insurance today: 90 bux a month/ full coverage, two new '06 cars. Only good thing about getting older. When my first wife left the second time, full coverage on a new Subaru went from 128/month: 0 deductible to 514.00/month: 500 deductible ( back in 1981). Being under 25 and single sux when it comes to the insurance scam.
