| El Chupacabra | If you are interested in working on an open source project for Tweak3D, put your name in this thread and I will contact you. We will be developing a system analysis and tweak utility for Windows systems. The Goal: Create a killer application that will help people tweak their systems, raise awareness of Tweak3D, and drive traffic to the site. What we need: Developers - You should have knowledge of the .NET Framework 2.0 and higher, Win32 C++, and you'll need access to Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio 2008 (express editions are okay and they are FREE!) -- OR -- if you have a desire to learn these skills and are willing to take on small tasks to begin with, let me know Graphic Artists - Experienced graphic artists and those willing to learn are welcome to join up; the first task of the experienced folks will be to develop a style guide to maintain a consistent look and feel throughout Writers - If you are familiar with writing technical documentation, that would be fantastic, if not, you should be familiar with using spell check QA - I want this to be a community tested effort so I would hope that you guys would all step forward and be willing to install the software and report bugs I will manage the project and also contribute significantly to the development effort. I appreciate everyone's willingness to help out. You'll be working gratis, but all involved will get equal credit on the project, and it'll look good on your resume. *Update* I have created the project at CodePlex: Tweak3D - Home If you are interested in working on the project, you will need to register at CodePlex and request to be added as a developer. Even if you are working on graphics/docs, please register at CodePlex so we can store all of the related work. Please go through the following FAQ on CodePlex so you know what you will need to upload and manage the project resources: CodePlex Information and Discussion - Home *Update* - 4/26/2008 I have published the project on CodePlex. The solution that is checked in to Source Control is only a shell at this point, but we have to put something up there to get the project rolling. Last edited by j0k3r; 04-26-2008 at 02:35 PM. | P/T State Worker | Since i'm not dating this girl I seem to be having more time then usual I can try and do everything except develop, although i'm willing to learn, I offered to help with dan with sql but became very busy but not anymore. I know some basic sql qeury's and stuff like that, but i'm also willing to learn! So yeah, I would like to help with writing stuff and graphical stuff and minor development stuff | |

| Rogue One | Not sure how much time I'll be able to put in, but I've got experience with Win32 C++ and .NET, so I can probably help on the development side. | |

| Jolly Bolly Fo-Folly | Hit me up for any writing/QA tasks. Although I can program, I have a lot on my plate and don't want to over fill it. Maybe in a couple weeks I will know better how much free time I have for coding. | |

| Curmudgeon | I wish I knew how to code in any language, cause I'd be happy to contribute... I guess I can just be a tester. | |

| Globe Trekker | So what is the killer application actually going to do? There are quite a few tweaking applications already out there, it will have to really distinguish itself to attract attention to the site. | |

| Vagina Friendly Mayor | I can help with the writing and q/a. I haven't coded anything more than login scripts for a few years. I'd really like to see this include registry tweaks for things we all do to systems to make it more palatable (disable uac, disable aero if needed, add items to vista start menu, redirect My Docs/Default Folder locations/Shell items)... basic things that normally take awhile to configure. | Tweak3D Webmaster | A couple things I'd recommend that are needed from a good app: -quick tweaks automatically (maybe 3 levels of how much stuff to turn off or disable) including system restore, various windows startups and services including startup folder, visual settings (like fading windows, drop shadows, and so-on)... -easy backup tool that backs up known folders and searches HDD for .doc, xls, pictures, and so-on to a single place or external storage device -better drive clean-up tool, or integrates with crapcleaner -software overclocking and maybe generic performance analytics (like, general performance grade of your PC based on various benchmarks or real-time tests you do as you simply use your PC) ... maybe recommend hardware based on this, such as new video cards, more ram, better CPUs based on your chipset... I'll think of more later, but I think the 1st and 4th things here would be most important and unique. | |

| Vagina Friendly Mayor | Oh another thought -- trojan remover has helped me quite a bit in removing spyware/virus activity. Something that can check the registry for odd entries in the ususal run entries, shell hooks, winlogon etc... | |

| Lord Of Porn | this is a pretty big undertaking for a community forum but I would not mind testing this whenever we have a working build. | |

| Globe Trekker | May I recommend that the tool be focused on Vista. There seems to be a lot of room for improvement there, and it's relative newness means there are likely fewer tweak tools available than are for XP. The Vista tweak articles in this archive could serve as a blueprint really: August 2007 - Power Users Guide - nathan edwards - Maximum PC March 2007 - Windows Vista Survival Guide - nathan edwards - Maximum PC | |
