I didn't see a thread about this yet...!

CA gay marriage ban overturned

Quote:
"Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," Chief Justice Ron George wrote for the court's majority.
Hell f-ing yes. I love my state.

Step one: Cut a hole in a box.

how come? kids who are adopted will go into a loving family who actually wants them, instead of the unstable/abusive/non-existent family that got them into adoption in the first place.

I feel sorry for all the kids of parents who got drunk, fucked in an alley next to a dumpster, broke up and then had to raise the kid on their own. The only problem with raising a kid in a same sex relationship is the DISCRIMINATION FROM THOSE WHO OPPOSE IT.

And I love how any time courts rule in a way the right doesn't approve of its an ACTIVIST JUDGE!! omgZORz!, but the second something goes in favor of right wing values it is just the court doing its job properly.

Quote:
The ruling surprised legal experts because the court has a reputation for being conservative. Six of its seven judges are Republican appointees.
Suck it, looks like the Republicans are to blame

But seriously, I'm glad to see this happen. And I don't see how this has any negative effect on the people who are against it. They just want to police morality and enshrine discrimination in the Constitution, a document that is about rights.

It really has not net different effect at all, unless you are an insurance company that now has to cover the spouse, Certain legal rights to property
and custodial issues will change, but heteros won't know the difference.

Good for them! I know several gay people and all of them are very cool, "normal", and responsible people (hi Kristi!). If they were to try and get married, I think they should have every right to do so. And they would be much better parents than at least 90% of the straight people I know / have known.

Issues with heteros won't change but this is a HUGE step for the gay community. By getting married they now have access to the same slipstreamed process of wills, power of attorney, and right of family members in hospitals and such that heteros have had for years.

At least they have 4 more supporters in favor of it, and luckily their votes count more than everyone else's. Many people said nay, 4 people said yay, the yays have it. At least one of the judges managed to practice judicial restraint despite her beliefs.

DISCRIMINATION FROM THOSE WHO OPPOSE IT.

exactly, they'll more than likely have to grow up being rediculed by peers about their family and lifestyle..

I had a friend with a mom and a "Mukka" as he called her. I can't ever recall him getting any redicule at school and this was in the early-mid 90s. The way I see it, the only reason the states care if you are married is for tax and legal purposes (such as next of kin), so what concern is it to the state?

My point is the people complaining about the problem are the ones creating the problem.

Edit: Furthermore, this has nothing to do with children, the people who oppose same-sex marriage are against it with or without kids. The kids argument is just a smokescreen.

I don't care what they do. As long as they keep it to themselves I'm kind of repulsed seeing two dudes making out on a street.

I Have no sig cause i need no sig

As long as I get to call the shots in my own home, it doesn't involve me. Wether or not I allow any behavior in my home, by the same token, is my biz.
i used to be viamatly against anything "gay", but now i'm more of a "whatever floats yer boat", kinda guy. Age must be wearing me down. as long as I do not have to share in paying the consequences of someone else actions, then it really is not any of my biz-niz.

Then it's up to all of us to raise our kids right so they don't grow up with that point of view. Most racism/prejudice is a product of your environment.
