The year is almost over. So which movies really stand out in your mind as something special, or something crappy?

I haven't seen many movies released in 2005 this year but, here goes:

The Best:
Downfall
Dust to Glory
Kung-FU Hustle
The Merchant of Venice
North Country
Sin City

The Worst:
Imaginary Heros
Kingdom of Heaven
Lord of War
Son of the Mask (never saw it but I'm still putting on here)

The biggest Let Dows\Dissapointments:
Good Night and Good Luck
Syraiana
Land of the Dead
C.R.A.Z.Y
SW EP3
March of the Penguins

Kingdom of Heaven was a great movie. What the crap is wrong with you? And Kung-Fu Hustle as the best? Hmmm ok then...

The Life Aquatic was great. But that was from 2004 wasn't it? I can't even recall five movies I've seen from 2005. Episode III was great....

In regards to KOH,

The action was scenes were few and far between. When there was action it was pretty generic, annoyingly edited, and not at all R rated.
The love story was just shit. I didn't care about the two characters at all.
The father/son relationship wasn't convincing.
I think there was maybe one actor I found believable, and that was Jeremy Irons.
For a 2h 25m film, I think I could recall about 5 good minutes.

Kung Fu-Hustle on the other hand, was something I'd never seen before. Outrageous fight scenes, over the top characters, but thuroughly entertaining, and funny too. This movie was 1h and 35 minutes long. I enoyed at least an 1h of it.

In case you haven't heard Reaver, people like and dislike different things. So there is nothing "the crap" wrong with me, or any of us.

i thought syriana was pretty damn good, i don't know why you out it as a letdown. it was definitely one of the more intelligent movies to come out of hollywood lately. half of the theatre didn't understand shit when i watched it because it was mostly dialog driven. syriana was an illustration that you don't need constant action to keep the audience hooked - i was glued to the screen the whole time...

*EDIT* Harry Potter 4

Worst:
Batman Begins
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (I love Tim Burton through and through, but the ending was kinda crap)

Wedding Crashers was good, for sure. Sin City kicked a large portion of ass as well.

I'm probably one of the biggest Tim Burton fans alive, I'll even forgive him for Planet of the Apes. I loved the movie by default, but the ending was too thrown together (imho, of course).

I actually saw no movies in the theater this year, except for Sin City which was awesome.

Good:
Sin City
Episode 3
Doom (it got in here because it beat my expectations a lot)

Mediocre:
Batman Begins
The Island

And today while watching a preview for kong i said "there have been no good movies since the first matrix" (exception being Sin City). We need to shoot the current movie writers and get some new ones in there.

I make myself laugh.

Best movie I watched: Batman Begins
Worst movie I watched: Revenge of the Sith
It's funny, I hated the Batman franchise ever since they got rid of Tim Burton and Michael Keaton, but it was redeemed with this movie. I loved Star Wars up to The Phantom Menace (I know, but STFU), but they screwed it up with the last two movies.

I agree, it was one of the more intelligent movies out there. I liked that. Although it was fiction I liked that all the situations seemed plausable, to me anyways. I liked the way they tackled the issue from alot of different angles, just like Traffic (a favorite of mine). But for me, all of that adds up to nothing because I didn't care about the characters. Whether they did good or bad, lived or died just didn't matter to me. Maybe that's how the director wanted it. Personally that not what I wanted, so I guess that explains it.

I also didn't like the new Chocolate Factory. Wonka is supposed to be a crazy genius, not a retard.
