| is a stupid republican | I've had a bit of extreme depression lately due to girl/women issues, and it got me in the hole where you can't eat/sleep and I have a bit of a crackhead beard growing. Besides work and school I haven't really left the house in a little over a week but today I finally went to the new gym that opened down the street and ran five miles, and damn I feel alot better. So i ask, what do you guys normally do when your feeling really depressed to help yourself feel better? |

| Tweak Minion | working out definitely helps. it's a fact it releases "happiness". So I'll do that. Playing some video games will help me as well. Having GOOD friends and/or family helps depending on the situation. When I was the most down in my life (when my wife suddenly left me), nothing helped me. I couldn't eat, sleep, play video games, i wans't going to the gym at that point. I just couldn't focus enough to do anything. I left our apartment to go live with a friend until the lease ran out. best move I could had done. having a friend ALWAYS around you helped a lot. we also worked together so he was always there. my cat (as silly as it sounds) also helped a lot. sometimes having something unconditionally love you and not talk is one of the best medicines. anywho, hopefully you get through whatever you are going through! |

| Saint, Church of Ryanism | I focus the energy into something productive. To lay around and feel bad for yourself does nothing to better the situation. It is natural instinct to get depressed and want to do nothing. But you have to fight past that. I generally clean, or start a new project. I get a lot of satisfaction from completing something that I can see. Something material, that I can say I built or did. I take pride in my mechanical abilities and enjoy building things or manipulating what I have to accomplish a given task. You can also rectify the situation by helping yourself in picking up women. Involve yourself in some activities with friends or start a new hobby. Force yourself to do something social, and they can help you to rebuild self esteem. ~Will Courtier~ |

| Tweak Minion | haha if part of his depression is due to women problems, than maybe sex isn't possible... |

| Indigenous Nudist | i think you really took a good step on getting out and running. that can relieve alot of tension and depression or just to get your mind into a better mode. Weight lifting as well... I bet swimming REALLY helps, if i had access to a pool i'd be swimming alot more. but for me, yea, exercising.. and spending money on things to keep my mind busy. i know the spending money thing is not good though oh, and music... lay down and listen to music thats got no sentimental connection to the girl and drift off.. enjoy it until you have to take the headphones off and walk back into reality. Same thing with movies. Movies can put you into another world until its over, then its back to reality |

| Curmudgeon | I use exercise and movies. I read too (though it can be hard to focus on the book and not your problems sometimes). Online Poker is fun too. Basically do what you're good at. |

| Has Absolutely no life | Fucker Stole my idea. I still get bouts of depression from what happened to that girl in February. After I found out what happened I got about 6 hours of sleep over two days, when I would sleep I would wake up and was just sad to the point I wanted to cry but I couldn't. Finally on the second night I did and I slept a lot better after that. I would suck it up at work, or at least hide it well enough that the wouldn't see me ready to burst into tears. At home I couldn't function, I could hardly eat (I forced myself to), and I was just miserable. I have to wake up for work at 5:50 every day so I try to get to bed between 9:30 and 10pm. Last night I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about what happened and it makes me so sad and angry. If I ever had a chance to hurt this person, I would make death be mercy. I would rather he lives the rest of his life in sorrow and despair than let him die. Oh yes and I work out 5 times a week, work and go to school full time. |

| is a stupid republican | Actually its kinda confusing... this girl is like my best friend and on the advice of her new boyfriend decides that she cant be friends with me anymore telling me via a random text, "this is goodbye mike" with no explanation. To top it off we have a mutual friend who decides to go along with it and will never talk to me again either and will not tell me why and when i asked i got blocked on facebook and aim. So i went from having best friends that i hung out with every week and trust completely to kinda getting a big shit pie in my face. |

The only thing I can say is don't spend a lot of time alone. Go out in public, go to the movies, work, etc. Even if recreational stuff doesn't interest you when you're depressed (and it doesn't with me), still go do it. You just gotta do things to get your mind off of things, that's really what it comes down to. I've been working so much lately that I just don't even think about some of the problems I've had arise lately. But trust me, I've dealt with absolutely excruciating depression, and I guess I always feel a tad of it, but I'm a lot better today just by keeping busy, making new friends, not being on the computer 24/7, etc. Hang in there man. | |

| Tweak Minion | that's such bullshit from her boyfriend. does this gal have feelings for you? if so, I can understand him not wanting you in her life. recently, my g/f asked me to stop all contact with one of my friends. of course it was a tad more extreme as she was married with 3 kids and was trying to break up my relationship as she had feelings for me. it was hard at first losing a friend but turned out it was the best thing that could of happened. i didn't realize how destructive this person was to my life until she was out of it completely. anywho, having opposite sex best friends just is very difficult to work. |
