AT&T came by today to offer us fiber optics on a promotional trail period. It's the phone, cable and internet on fiber plan. With the cheapest plan being $85 a month. Have heard a lot of good things about it but would like to hear from someone who has it. We have phone and DSL through AT&T and cable with Time Warner combined it's over $100 a month. We hope we can get the fiber package and come out paying less in the long run.

What do you think of fiber optics?

The only fiber optics that I have been offered was for an internet service back in Iowa (from a satellite internet provider station to the home). Of all the places I've been, I've never seen or heard of fiber optics other than that.

I have fiber runs to my house, but no one is offering service for it here yet. I do have VDSL which runs over the fiber until it gets to the curb, but then it switches to copper. We do have the capability here for fiber service, but who knows when we'll get it. I have been very happy with my VDSL service though. The bandwidth is massive and the latency is super low.

I used to have fiber about 6 years ago in concord ca. It was pretty sweet! I was getting 5-10MB when it first launched and then they capped it to 3MB, keep in mind this was back when 1.5MB was considered fast.

I remember we paid about $90-$100 for tv, phone, and internet.

I really wish I never used the service because now I realize just how slow my current service is

i wish we had fiber available. I don't even have DSL available lol. We only have comcast cable, dial-up, clearwire, and satellite. the only option that is worth anything is comcast but it's $60 a month alone just for the internet. I have satellite TV right now so I don't get the comcast discount for having multiple services. once my contract runs out on satellite though, I'll probably switch just to save money.

XMission Internet

Available just an hour away from me. Their 'World-Class' package is freaking insane. 3 Gbps. Business lines at 30 Mbps is pretty sweet though.

My sister has Verizon FIOS. It rapes. 5/1mbps internet, 500 TV channels, and phone for $99 a month. TV isn't HD though, I have no idea what their HD looks like/ if it's available. The standard TV quality is the same as DirecTV or better.

we dont have fiber but something close enough to it. we have both DSL and cable. our dsl runs at 10mb/1mb and cable runs at 8mb/1mb but since we dont have a dual wan router, its either 10mb or 8mb but the nice thing is that i have them both hooked to my computer so if my server is downloading a shit load of stuff on the cable, i switch to dsl on my computer and download something else at 10mb.

Yes, I remember it well! I can't think of 14.4 without thinking of Acid ANSI art and LORD, Planets, and other fun BBS activities, like setting the computer to download that large DOOM file overnight, using Z-Modem protocol, to put on a massive 1.44 mb floppy the next day...

Modems were the original tweakable items back then. I was always fiddling with the best AT string to get the most out of my connection.

Yeah, back when a 4mb download took too long to even concider. Now? 1.5 Gb in an hour or so. We've come along way baby.

i know ATT is supposed to be launching their new TV/ISP service sometime soon over fiber. NC is on the list as one of the first states where they'll be rolling it out.

it's about time someone started recognizing The Triangle on a national level!
