It used to be that Firefox squashed 'em all, but here lately I see 6-10 pop-ups throughout the course of the day. I don't surf enough with Internet Explorer to really say if it happens with it. Dilbert.com, Imdb.com, etc. It's starting to piss me off...

A lot of sites have popups which are launched using Flash, which the normal popup blocking won't catch. Try installing the Flashblock extension and see if that helps. It won't stop them all though, I have it installed and still see the occasional one. Didn't get any on dilbert.com or imdb.com though.

With Tab Browser Extensions you can disable javascript, all plugins, refresh, etc. on a site-by-site basis by right-clicking on the tab. And it remembers the settings for the site. See a pop-up, right click on the tab and change the permissions for the site permanently.

I thought everybody was using TBE anyway. I couldn't live without it for the other features.

I use the noscript extension. It's simple and allows you to block java, javascript, and flash from untrusted sites, and making a site trusted is easy as clicking on the noscript icon in the lower right hand side of the browser. It pops a messagebar warning of disabled javascript attempts.

It's a minor annoyance, and I'm only seeing it on a few sites. My only question is - who patronizes companys that advertise via pop-ups? Obviously lots of people do or they wouldn't advertise that way...
