For fuck's sake, don't we have enough of these 'bashing America' threads. Sorry, I don't mean to be a dick. This shit is just endless debates...

I'm not bashing america, I'm letting people know what's going on with our government and I think its important to know. If someone threatened our system of government and its core components were being jeopardized you would probably scream terrorism! But it's not terrorists it's elected officials that are letting our system degrade and if someone doesn't stop it america as you know it will not exist. It doesn't matter who's side you are on or what you believe because it will affect us all.

If you don't think granting the president the power to side step congress's right to keep the president in check then I'm truely scared at the thought that there are probably others like you that don't care as well and that we will continue on this path.

Anyway as I said in my original post, I plan to use this thread to post little things like these instead of making new threads.

That was so unpatriotic! Get out of my country!!!! God bless America and only America!! God makes Americans, not humans!!!

"As you can see, I've memorized this utterly useless fact long enough to pass a test question. I now intend to forget it forever. You've taught me nothing except how to cynically manipulate the system. Congratulations."

It's going to take a delicate balancing act to ensure safety while not eroding our civil liberties. I'm OK with the wiretapping.

Wartime is a time of give and take. Look at the enemy, are they in uniform? Who exactly is the enemy? Can you definatively tell one when you see them?

I am most definitely not. I liked that a police organization could wiretap with only a court ordered warrant, anything else is too far.

On another note, I'd rather have a few "insert random towel head slang" running around than live in a police state, or even what we have now.

As time passes, I'm becoming more conservative, and I like it. (read: conservative /= Republican)

I'm in favor of either making this a sticky thread or creating a Politics forum category. I know how some of you must feel everytime you come to Off-Topic and find one of these threads. Still, we need to talk about this stuff, and this is the only place where we can do this. You don't have to read these threads, you know?

Although things aren't as bad here as in other countries, they're deteriorating, and we need to stop them before precedents are set and it's too late. Call me naïve if you want to, but thinking we're powerless is the worst thing we can do.

It's not unpatriotic to want to question your leader's decisions, it is your duty as a democratic citizen. I you can't express dissent or question the status quo, you don't live to deserve in a democracy.

America had the potential to be the greatest country in the world. In fact, I might even go so far to say it was one of the greatest countries in the world. Things have changed.

My current beef is probably the stem cell veto.

When you're at the top the only way you can go is down, but we're still at the top despite efforts on various fronts (internal and external) to destroy us, or worse, make us mediocre. Stopping illegal immigration would be helpful in preserving our nation and greatness, but since probably half our senators and house reps are owned by Mexico that likely won't happen.

You heard that they voted against funding the boarder fence that they all originally wanted right?

Food for thought, by remaining in a perpetual state of war the President becomes Caesar nice power grab huh?

That's what I fear the most. If we are fighting terrorism and terrorism can never be stopped does that mean this war will never end? Does that mean my civil liberties will continue to be chipped away for the sake of fighting terrorism? Does that mean the US will continue to spend and exorbitant amount of money on the war? Doesn't that mean that there is no real chance of ALL of our troops coming home?

I guess the biggest problem I have is that this "War on terrorism" is so poorly defined or not defined at all that we've set our selves up for a dictatorship (for the lack of a better word) all for the sake of fighting this war.

WTF ever happened to the GAO? Those last two articles have me pissed beyond belief. These are our tax dollars at work? Tax dollars that I have tp go out and work 14 hours a day in 107 degree heat to earn? IMHO the prez isn't solely responsible here. These are our elected officials, or the people who were hired by our elected officials doing this shit. The blame I put on the prez is that he should be
extremely concernedby the lack of accounting and oversight of what happens to our tax dollars.
I totally apreciate your thread. This shit does need to be called into attention, ignoring it won't make it go away. The only thing that will make this situation and all the porkbarrel waste, is a change in management......from the top down. I sincerely plan on voicing/demonstrating my dissaproval come election time. VOTE THEM ALL OUT!!! Especially the 'career' politicians.

Yeah dude, i'm with you. A president should not have this kind of power during a time of national crisis. In fact, I'm moving to Somalia, where the President has no authority.

And now that I think about it, I wish I didn't have to work 50 hours a week so that I could have more free time to blog my progressive thoughts endlessly on the internet.

But in all seriousness, this International Islamic terrorism crisis needs to be confronted by industrialized nations of the world. And I support a country and a President who is willing to take up that cause. Period.

What cause? The war on drugs? The war on disease? All of these are international issues and I'm willing to bet they kill more people than terrorists.

And how many resources should we commit to the cause? How many freedoms should we be willing to lose in order to fight this war? At what point does the issues at home become more important than those related to fighting this war? At what point should the US or the international collective body declare the crisis is over? When there are no more terrorists? When attacks stop? When bin laden is captured?

And at what point did you start believing that our current system of checks and balances no longer worked and you thought one particular branch of government should have more power than the other two branches?
