I guess the rumors were true (assuming nothing crazy happens and the deal falls through).

I hope this helps ATI's Linux driver situation. I doubt it will.

Oh well, as long as I can still use nvidia cards on my AMD machines I'll be happy enough.

What a weird move. Pretty much every good AMD based motherboard was Nforce, seems stupid to aquire the company that is directly competing with your chipset manufacturer.

That's precisely why they wanted ati. Nvidia can and will continue to make chipsets for them but not with ati they can make their own.

Crap I own Nvidia and Intel stock. This could be bad news for me.

Diversify, get ahold of some ATI/AMD stock....cover both cheeks of yer ass.
If AMD, MIcrosoft and Intel were to converge:
Would they going to become "Skynet"?

unfortunately, it's a fact that there exists
"an inconveinient truth".

Get out of the box, then recycle it.

I think they should be seperate I hated it already when I saw " Made for Nvidia" garbage for games. Now I'm gonna see crap loads of ATI and AMD compatibility or optimized junk. Hopefully they own it but don't interfere.

Given AMDs CPU expertise this could be GREAT news for 3D graphics. Or they could screw up both companies like the merger of Chrysler and Mercedes.

Definately the former. I always run AMD and ATI products... and they run great together as it is... I can only imagine greater optimization.

Mmm, bacon.

thats interesting. i wonder if theres some attempt at market gain here or what. intel is making a strong comeback (conroe > *, providing you will be able to get one. sorry amd fanboys) and i believe nvidia is a larger company (all divisions considered). i think AMD might be trying to take back the performance crown. either way, this *should* help both companies out

btw i have an athlon 64 and ATI 9600XT as my main system...

anyone else have recolections of SGI? i could see some really awesome 3d machines coming from this merger but then after a few years the govt would take them over and all we'd be left with is the crap the company can release.

yeah i got my tin foil hat ready :P

His sig is great.

As for the merger: I love it. It will lead for more optimization and developers can also develop for a specific mobo/cpu/gpu platform that is almost as good as programming for a gaming console, minus the memory usage tweaks.

I found his sig to be oddly mesmerizing, but I have no idea where it came from.
