Ok I got this ps2 and I want to fix it, first off its a fat ps2. Well the power strip that goes from where the power and eject buttons are disconnected so i took it apart and now im tryin to figure out how to reconnect them, well i did a google search and I found this site and so far its given me the best info on what to do cause the ps2 had a problem on loading games and stuff. So if there is something that someone could do to help that would be great, ill even take a snapshot and show you what the problem is also.

Thanks in advance to those that can help and if you got a messenger name please message me with it and that might help.

I came to this website with the typical non-working PS2 with disk loading failure (grinding sound), and followed the instructions on disassembly. A note....do make sure that the sealing tape is all the way off, it took me an hour to figure out why the bottom and top case wouldn't come completely apart (the tape). Then the instructions were very clear and good on how to adjust the laser reading eye angel with the plastic gear. All well and good until i knocked over the top case and the connector cable ribbon from the reset/open switch pulled out of the drive board. Luckily i found this post that said it could be reconnected, and i found the little white connector slip on the underside of the drive just as this post said, and plugged it back in <whew..it worked>. But the laser eye angel adjustment did not solve my problem even though i went thru a whole rotation of the gear. Out of desperation i cleared the white grease off the slider rails for the laser read-head, replaced it with lithium grease, manually defeated its gears and moved the head along the rails, then prayed that it would work when i resealed the drive cover, and my prayer was answered!

So, if your defunct PS2 is making grinding sounds rather than giving you a smooth and quiet 'disk read error' mesage, consider re-greasing the readhead rails and forcing it to refind its alignment. Maybe i was just extremely lucky or blessed, or it was the smartest thing i have ever done (i need to get out more).

i hope this helps somebody else someday.

Play On !!
