Hi everyone, I am having trouble with a slim PS2 the DVD drive has completely stopped working at first i thought it was a disk read error but on inspection I discovered that the drive was just no longer turning the disk. So I first changed the drive for a new working one, and i still had the problem, the OS works fine it seems that possibly something on board has gone.

I am new to repairing PS2's so you'll have to bare with me, I have a few questions :

1 - Can this problem be fixed? either by replacing the board or if anyone can offer advice on repairing it

2 - If it cannot be fixed i was thinking of connecting a hard drive and running games that way, however to run software such as HD advance do i need a functioning drive to boot the software? or can it be booted by other means?
