My garage sale bought PS2 would not read most discs. Used the DRE guide to fix it. It worked well right away for a few discs but not all. Tweaked it a bit more using the guide once again, and the phone rang. Left the room to answer, came back and my 4 year old moved the eye all the way back manually! No big deal I thought, but since then the disc will not spin up, so obviously it isn't reading anything at all. In addition, when I close the tray, it continuasly opens back up all by itself, over and over and over ARRRGH! Can anyone help me?

When you power it up with the case open, will it track back and forth and try to read the disc still? Or is it stuck in place?

I'm Tweak3D's self-appointed mayor.

Hello,
I've got the same problem. My PS2 worked fine with a ghost/matrix chip (i dont know exacly).
But since yesterday it reads nothing. When i power on the PS2 the disc doens't spin up. There happends nothing, no spin, no reading and no data.
I read the whole repairguide, triend a lot of combinatios of the cockweel and the laser adjustment but can't get it worked.
Is there any suggesties for the best place for the cockweel/laser. I turned it and the laser adjusted but forgot how it was originally placed.
Can someone help me.
Sorry for my english but i'm dutch

Well i'm not the same guy as the topicstarter.
But i have the same problems as the topicstarter.
Anyway i've got two playstations 2 standing here and tried everything. But can't get it worked. I replaced almost everything with the other one (that was 100% OK) but it still doesn't work.
When i power on the PS2 I hear that the laser is reading, al little peep. Then the motor for spinning the disc goes about 1 second spinning. Then immediatly its stops. I think the laser can't read the disc so it stops spinning cause the laser thinks there is no disc in it. I tried it yesterday for about 3 hours, the laser adjustment, the cockweel turning and the voltage. The laser is still working because when you power on the PS2 you see a red light in the laser dat says that it is still working right?

I have this same problem with another one. Actually, if I wait a REALLY long time, the disc will start spinning. It eventially detects the silver disc <got it to run a blue one> but it takes forever. I've replaced the motor on the side with another <this looks like a spiral screw that the laser slide up and down upon> and it's done nothing to remedy the problem.

This might not be exactly the same... if it is then after it spins the disc twice and stops.. it'll stop for a good 2 minutes or so.... then it will spin like their's no tommorrow... 30 sec after that it finds my silver disc. When I click to play the screen goes black and then goes back to the previous screen where it was detecting the disc.
