I just bought God of War and went to play and PS2 says "disc Read error" so i fallowed the instructions on this site to clean my PS2 to fix the DRE's and the top cover fell sideways and made the ribbon leading from the Reset/Open buttons to underneith the laser detach itself. The ribbon IS NOT ripped, so i was wondering how i could fix this. Thanks for all the help.

So goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death, hello to eternity and live for every breath!

I've still never had this happen, but read often of it occuring. Have you taken a glance at how it connects in hope to reconnect it? I wouldn't mind seeing some pictures to see how it connects.

I'm Tweak3D's self-appointed mayor.

the plug is on the right side and is kinda hard to get to as it's under the cdrom drive and the first piece of metal on the top of the board. The cd-rom drive should have a thin flat wire that plugs in next to the plug your looking for. You should be able to push it back in by holding onto it with a pair of pliers, if not, you'd have to dissemble the ps2 further to get to it. The plug is on the underside of the board between the two sheets of metal on it and on some boards it's "white" between two "brown" plug in's. If you cannot get it in with pliers then you'll need to take off the bottom plastic part of the ps2 to get better access. The easiest way to do this is to remove the two screws holding the fan/power switch on and then removing the two screws on either side of the controller plug in. This should let you lift the board up from the bottom, and the plug appear upside down sandwiched between the top and bottom sheets of metal on either side of the main board. If you need some pictures, I can provide some if you tell me where to send them.

I would love pictures if possible, as I have this same problem and it's kept me out of the PS2 loop for a LONG, LONG time.

Mine is the older phat PS2. With the bottom cover removed 2 of the 4 screws holding the drive bay will be out already. Remove the 4 screws holding the power board to chassis and pull straight up (but not far, this is necessary because drive cage has small tab that has to go straight up to be pulled from under power board.)

Next the ribbon plug is closest to front (easy count connectors.) The ribbon plug is type that the lip toward opening swings up to unlock and lock the ribbon. Make sure the side with contacts mate with pins in connector (plastic is fragile especially with age.) The rest is self explanatory.

Was just there because someone before me drove screw through the ribbon. Managed to scrape away the foil, the mylar to expose the strips. Folded the ribbon till the strips matched and micro soldiered. Hot glued to finish.

Was going to make pictures but so simple decided not (didn't want to take apart again.)

Hope this helps.
